not a big fan of the toyota.. and yes, Honda DC5R/S both keep their value. 02 DC5R still selling around 25-30k

I've never driven the DC5, but I've driven the 7th Gen Celica SX and gotta say its a pretty nice machine, 6 speed as well if i remembered correctly. Responsive, reliable, and can be driven daily without fuss.

If you are choosing between the DC5 std model or the 7th gen Celica, I'd go the Celica if you are after performance.

im asking about non-type r/s -_-

tony good point about the resale value.

Want to ask - on the DC5 non R can the engine parts be changed to the Type R standard without a replacement?

and the DC5 is 5 gears, while the DC5r is 6 yeah?

Yes DC5R has 6spd.
If you are going to do that, then you may as well work little bit harder and get the R type, be easier in the long run...

Too many biased opinions...as expected on ozhonda =P

I own a base model DC5 but had driving lessons in a celica.

The celica is much more fun to drive because of its added power "lift".
The base model DC5 just has a fuel saving vtec that kicks in at 2200rpm, it just a 'sporty looking' car.

Both would have similar aftermarket support but the celica would be a whole lot cheaper to maintain (part prices). + many engine mods are interchangeable with the corolla sportivo.

DC5R/S >> Celica > DC5base

integraz
09-05-2009, 08:57 PM
Handling would be near the same.

Power is Celica for sure, better than the base dc5.

Aftermarket would be similar if not a tad more for the dc5, due to the fact you can interchange stuff with the type R/S.
But parts for the the base dc5 ONLY, is less than the celica.

Celica interior is crud.

IMO get the celica + power FC you would be pretty even with stock dc5 R/S.

The problem with the celica engine from factory is that it falls of the "vtec" band, but the power FC rectifies this.

I have a base dc5, so it's not worth getting it, either celica, or go straight to ITR/S

if you are stuck to this budget with this choice of car then you really need to consider what you want the car for...

From a drivetrain standpoint i would say the Celica shits all over the base DC5... the base wasnt made for performance... it only just puts out a little bit more than a Corolla...Sure the build is probably a bit nicer, only a little bit, we are talking about Toyota here... resale is probably better... but who give a ****? are you 50?

I'd got the celica in this sintance, even though the gear ratio's are all ****ed up and it has no LSD...

Driven both and this is the verdict versus a standard 118kw spec DC5

1. Celica/Corolla Sportivo
2. Celica/Corolla Sportivo
3. Celica/Corolla Sportivo. Dealership service is cheap and thorough. And this is comparing an invoice/list for both cars at similar KM intervals.
4. Honda. This is a good point... you mod the Celica/Corolla beyond I/H/E

But I do agree, I find the celica shape a bit odd... why not the corolla sportivo hatchback?

I have driven both,
Celica hands down if you're simply looking at the base model Integras.
Personally i find that the 6 spd box on the SX/ZR to be a tad too notchy when compared to the Integra's, but aside from that its a very nice car to drive.

you won't the DC5 is nothing like the DC5R/S

It truly is an econobox package in a sporty chassis as previously mentioned. The sad thing is it's the epiphany of rice and it came like that from factory... all show and no go in any sense of sports performance.

A standard DC5 is exactly what the ST184(gen5)/ST204(gen6) Celica's are... an econo package in a sports chassis with nothing sporty... only Toyota was smart enough to have thought of it and got over it a decade ago.

Well... I have both the DC5 R and the ZZT231 Celica

but coparing the base DC5 with the Celica.
1. Handling- Celica Win- comes with Super Strut suspension right?
2. Power- Celica has 190 hp, compared to base DC5 of 160 hp
3. Cost to Run- DC5 wins
4. Aftermarket Support- Honda wins....
5. Dont forget looks..... Celica win the look

i see there's a celica in ur avatar lol

ahh so the honda is cheaper to run? how so in ur opinion?

i have had the Celica for 5 years now, while the DC5 R for about 2 months. both have its pluses and minuses. Honda is more popular in Indonesia compared to Toyota (rank 1 and 2), and parts for HONDA in here is cheaper (though marginal), and i was told (but yet to be proven) that HONDA engine are built to last more than Toyota's.

well my Celica has 85,000km on the odo (it was year 2000 celica), and during my ownership nothing serious happened. the biggest part i need was probably to replace the intake camshaft, which has had scrathes on the cam lobes, which make the engine a bit noise at certain RPM.

The DC5 R only has 18,000km on the odo, and the engine is still very very smooth.

I believe the Celica in Aussie comes in SX and ZR, but the difference is only cosmetic, they have the same 190 2ZZ-GE engine. if you want the celi, get the manual 6 speed, probable year 2000-2001, cos the 2002 comes with drive-by-wire, and lower redline (7,800RPM compared to 8,200 RPM for the 2000-2001).

comapring the I-VTEC and the LIFT is a different world. once hit 5,800 RPM on the DC5 R, the I VTEC push the DC5 hard until about 8000 rpm or so. but I think the LIFT on the CELICA push HARDER than the I VTEC, the engine sounds much more beautiful, and the car runs like it is on drugs ;)

but to be sure, just test drive both cars and see which one you like.
the have one thing in common: both MUST BE pushed/ Revved hard to be enjoyed ;)

strider
12-05-2009, 05:36 PM
lol
thanks for that

SX doesn't come with ABS (its an option). thats what i'm worried about, ABS, is it worth the extra $2000ish for the ZR?

EK4R
12-05-2009, 05:42 PM
there are a lot more to the ZR than the abs for that extra 2k

detasemen88
12-05-2009, 05:52 PM
get the used one with TRD action package (called SPORTIVO in Oz), you wont regret it. the TRD kit makes the car look even sharper.

I used to have TRD kit, but i changed to TRIAL kit (but keep the TRD rear wing, which is nice)...

so choosing between the base DC5 with Celica, i would go with the Celica, but that's me.... some people like the DC5 styling better (which is more conservative), compared to the more radical look of the Celica.

inside, sitting on DC5 is like sitting on a sedan, while sitting on the celica, it is very low slung seating position, closer to the ground. visibility to the front in celica is a minus, the long bonnet and the low seating position make it hard to see clearly through the front windscreen.

but surely chicks like the celica better, hahahaha.... surely it will turn more heads....

it works on import cars when your young. young slutty girls get attracted especially to the bling which is why 'sex spec' works... and why 'jdm' only works on jdm bitches

but when you get older, your expensive luxury or sports cars still get you laid. why? because it shows your wealthy and there are a certain type of hot girls that will go for this security.

there is a big difference between an expensive car and being wealthy. a mate of mine has an immaculate r32 gtr and another wrx sti ive been through alot of cars most old and crappy. i pull 10x the roots they do simply because while they have expensive and "flashy cars" they never have the money to go out on the weekend because all there cash is tied up in there cars and cant afford to go to the clubs/pubs/ concerts etc where ur best chances of meeting one are. if mummy and daddy buys you cars and u get plenty of pocket money then sure have a flash car but its no good having a flash car when u cant even take a girl to the movies cause u gotta pay ur insurance and loans. having said all that im not saying there is any thing wrong with owning a nice car,but i wouldnt spend 15,000+ to potentialy pick up some skank in it. especially if u got a face like a bucket full of smashed crabs ... for eg.15,000 will get ruffly a brothel trip per day for 2 1/2 years!!! much better bang for ur buck

there is a big difference between an expensive car and being wealthy. a mate of mine has an immaculate r32 gtr and another wrx sti ive been through alot of cars most old and crappy. i pull 10x the roots they do simply because while they have expensive and "flashy cars" they never have the money to go out on the weekend because all there cash is tied up in there cars and cant afford to go to the clubs/pubs/ concerts etc where ur best chances of meeting one are. if mummy and daddy buys you cars and u get plenty of pocket money then sure have a flash car but its no good having a flash car when u cant even take a girl to the movies cause u gotta pay ur insurance and loans. having said all that im not saying there is any thing wrong with owning a nice car,but i wouldnt spend 15,000+ to potentialy pick up some skank in it. especially if u got a face like a bucket full of smashed crabs ... for eg.15,000 will get ruffly a brothel trip per day for 2 1/2 years!!! much better bang for ur buck

lol

if i need a car to pick up i need to jump off a bridge. but yes u make some good points

DUDE! thats so not true, check this out...

I recently bought a DC5 and it pulls chicks..
Last night a pick up this girl that i had a thing with once.. anyway picked her up from her place and as soon as she saw it she pretty much was all over me.. she was like "OH SHIT! what kind of car is that, i have never seen one before"
anyway we got in, drove round, i pulled some VTEC, she thought it was the best thing ever and she was asking questions about the car. she was actually interested..
So i didn't have to spend money on going to clubs and pubs, we spent the night driving round and overlooking the water in my DC5!
oh and the best thing, well i wont kiss and tell. hahah. :p

some ppls replies are very biased.

I've owned a Toyota Celica 7th Gen Celica and i can compare it to my gfs DC5R.

1) Toyota
2) Toyota - Celica has VTTL i not VVT i which is in normal corollas and camrys
3) Equal Toyota / Honda
4) Definately Honda

ur mates are not the epiphany of my example... nothing more than broke ass kids. if they can't afford to go out after modding a car then their still broke ass kids.. barely getting by bcoz their still in the young mind off "yeah my cars sick bitches" instead of investing the moeny in a proprty or something.

young succesful males in mid 20+ who own M3/M5/Porsche/Mercs/etc... are what i'm talking about... the ones that own things that symbolize success... since when does an r32 or sti make someone look like a balling ****?

If i was balling in mid 20s who gives a **** about a stock gtr32 or sti's... that shit only works on childish bitches... real women... especially the pretty ones know how to use what they have to get what they want.... rich males simply don't give a ****, especially the not so good looking ones... they understand this cycle hence why they work hard to ball.. while the 'playaz' are still out and about going to clubs as its their only playing ground

As for you... enjoy your good looks or charm while it lasts if your success can't keep up with it by the time your over 30yrs old....

when you guys grow up a bit more and see the real world you'll understand what i'm talking about

***EDIT***
actually there's an exception to the rule... there's the rich bitches that already have everything they wan't... they get good looking guys who are hopefully good in the sack to be their bitches

Cars and bitches, Ive gotta say if your car pulls the chicks then good 4 u if u wanna money grubbing biatch. Ive pulled the best looking chicks in my life while I owned a '91 Charade! If u aint got it in the looks or charms department then try to play the car card!

ANYHOW, back to the topic of this forum.

Ive been shopping around for a reasonably priced B18C DC2 for a while here in Brisbane and the lack of clean/stock/well priced ($14K MAX) examples have been hard to come by. Since I havent had much luck, Ive been entertaining the thought of getting a 99-2001 Celica since the price range is similar.

Good thing about it is the Celica has a very good power to weight ratio. Compared to the base DC5, there is no comparison....celica is the clear winner.

I love the DC2.... its legendary (enuf said), but I must admit, styling wise the Celica's got the edge over the DC2 and the DC5. I love my Hondas, but being a VTEC nut I can't discount Toyotas 1800 VVTI-L. The verdict: go 4 the Celica. Put some mags on it and lower it 4 some street cred and u'll be getting a BJ in no time u ugly bastards!

My search for a DC2/ 7th gen celica is over, i found a clean em1 ( a bit disappointing but still nice). I recon my em1 looks better than a celica, but performance wise im out of my element, time for sum mods lol.
