Welcome to OzHonda
When are you looking to upgrade? P platers aren't allowed to drive engine swapped cars are they?

I thought I had read otherwise, if so bloody Vic Roads!

Prohibited vehicles

The prohibited vehicle condition restricts provisional (P1 and P2) drivers from driving certain high performance vehicles. The condition applies to provisional licences issued on or after 11 July 2005. The scheme aims to prohibit young driver access to vehicles that are overrepresented in young driver crashes.

Prohibited vehicles are those with:

* Eight or more cylinders (except diesel).
* A turbocharged engine (except diesel).
* A supercharged engine (except diesel).
* Engine performance modifications that require an engineers' certificate.
* Certain high performance six cylinder engine vehicles or other vehicles as described in the publication Novice Drivers - High Performance Vehicle Restrictions.

Would a K20 into an EG need to be engineered?

Yes it would.
<20% increase in displacement doesn't require an engineers cert.

On top of that, does anyone know if converting from carbie to EFI requires an engineers cert?

B18C Eg Civic doesnt require engineers cert. which means you can drive one of those legally.. But im affraid K20 / K24 is not an option.. Unless you go EP3 hehehehe.. S2000 is an option still..

Depending on what engine the EG Civic came with then you would have to engineer it. If the EG was stock with a D15 then you'd definately need to engineer it.

Really? B18C EG doesnt need Engineers cert? so any p-plater can drive it?

P platers can drive an engine swapped car yes.

How big is your budget. K20/24 EG would be cheaper. IMO EG civic FTW

Only if the car's original engine was a D16 and not a D15, then you can run a B18C without engineers (need engineers if capacity is increased by more than 15%).

thats how i got my b16 into my eg si

1.6L originally, no engineers cert, qld is 10% disp increase before engineers certificate is required

Loopholes are there =] and yes they are quite large ones

pretty sure nsw is 15% (just checked RTA)

so if you have 1.3...you have no chance

1.5L you should be rite..*does the maths* yep should be fine for a b18

just so theres no more loops lol...

IF YOU WANT TO DO AN ENGINE SWAP AND NOT NEED AN ENG CERT, THEN YOUR CAR MUST HAVE COME WITH A 1.5L OR 1.6 ENGINE TO BEGIN WITH

def x2 :D

but if you have a 6spd box in it, that needs a mod plate, hell you're putting an engine that was not designed for your car into it, not getting an engineer to look at it after the install is halirous, takes bugger all time and effort to do, if its installed right that is :)
