G'day guys, im getting a mechanical oil pressure gauge some time next week. Going on my Y4 (178k) cause ive heard ALOT of oil pump failures with D16Y series, so id like to monitor the pressure. where should i tap into to get pressure though? If it helps, im looking at the Autometer Phantom II Oil Pressure Gauge (http://autometer.com/cat_gaugedetail.aspx?gid=3516&sid=59)

An electrical oil pressure gauge would make routing much easier. You can either use an oil filter sandwich plate to locate the pressure sender before the filter, or use an oil filter relocator kit and locate the sender after the oil filter.

If you want to get an auto meter gauge a few of the other models have oil pressure senders so you dont need to have oil coming all the way to your dash, you just have a wire. I got rid of my oil pressure gauge i used to have but it was autometer and it came with a oil pressure switch.

thats great guys, but im sticking with mechanical, its cheaper, plus i dont want to be spending alot on gauges, something that works, hence the reason for mechanical. rather spend that money on my turbo setup...

That's how i did mine, T piece with oil pressure & oil temp off the standard oil pressure position.
Mechanical works just fine I have been using them for at least 20 years on all of my cars and not one problem.
You can go the sandwich plate route or go directly the the port where your stock sensor is. It is normally close to the oil filter. go direct and replace the stock sensor but your oil pressure warning light won't work.
Or use a "T" fitting and connect both which is what I have. Used a brass pipe nipple and three years latter no problems.

get an mfactory oil plate, with your gauge it comes with the sender that goes into it
simplest way

any of you guys got shots of these t-pieces fitted to the block? do you know what size fitting i would need??

WHERE did you fellas (claymore/Limbo) get the T-Piece from??

Just dont get brass T-piece. Had one snap and yeah....you know the story.
IMO i would use a sandwich plate and sensors going thru them.
Can be bought thru pirtek dsp26.

Sandwich plate would show oil pressure before the oil filter, while the T-piece at the pressure sensor would show the pressure after the oil filter.

for ease of install, go a sandwhich plate :D
buy some thread tape to tape up the spare plugs that are used for oil cooling as well as the thread on your autometer sensor, tighten up and it's win
you'll need an imperial socket piece to install it tho 1-1/16" from memory
The adapter plate installed :), you can see the autometer sensor below the intake manifold

Which is where the stock Honda sensor is located ;)
who trusts hondas stock locations anymore, i found this stupid groundwire on my head cover.;)
to OP, i got a sandwhich plate because it was on special at the time, then all you need are your gauges and some thread sealant.
remove oil, oilfilter, put sensors into sandwhich plate with sealant, then put in sandwhich plate, and wires from sensors. then wire it back up to battery and gauges. easy

Installing it with an oil filter sandwich plate gives you the pressure reading upstream of the oilfilter, which does not tell you the true oil pressure at the engine.

I used a T-join in between the stock oil pressure switch. Much easier than sandwich plate in my opinion

yeah did a bit of research guys, alot of them t-piece from the stock sensor. im also considering turbo down the road, a sandwich plate sounds good cause there are more outlets, but it unfiltered oil. on a D16 the oil sensor is above the oil filter. for now, a t-piece is what ill use, see how that goes... its a 1/8" BSPT fitting aswell, incase anyone is wondering...

but it will still stop if his oil pump fails wont it ?

lol the error is minimalistic
dont bother wasting too much time with t-pieces lol
value for money and easy of install, get an adaptor plate, some lil hamp filter and you're laughing :D

It won't show you whether oil pressure is sufficient in the case of your oil pump being on its way out. It won't show clearly if you have oil starvation at high cornering G's as well. Basically, the oil filter material is "masking" the actual pressure fluctuations that are occuring in the engine.

T piece is cheaper. All you need is a F-M-F 1/8" BSP T-piece and thread tape/sealant. To do it the correct way if you are pedantic would be to get a 1/8" BSP to 1/8" NPT adapter because oil pressure senders tend to be NPT threaded.

for easy install, the filter location is x10 easier for a novice to install with no hassels whatsoever :D
which is why I have ppl just buy them, plus you can inspect the connection every 5k, which is imo a good thing

Motorsport connections, i used a speedflow fitting (was expensive) but looks good in blue.
You can geta cheap one for about $10 from Pirtek in brass
I needed to use it cos i have an oil cooler on my sandwich plate and there was not enough room for all the sensors and oil cooler lines.
I'm also running mine on a boosted application.

he bro
the bestway is to tap into the oil pressure sensor on the engine if you need any adapters or fitting you can try an hydraulic place or pertek they come to you

Well, since my oil sensor is just above my oil filter, i can check that while im changing the oil filter! Im sure the t-piece is easy to install...

which speedflow bits did you get limbo?

dunno i got it from motosport connections, its only a single T piece, but i run a brass one off it also cos i have a few sensors off it. I just told them i needed a T piece and they got me one to fit.
Oil pressure sensor, OEM oil pressure sensor, oil temp sensor & turbo feed.
Had them in the car for over a yr now without any issues
