Hey guys
Me and a mate are thinking of building a race spec DC5r... we are currently debating wether it should be an all motor build or if we should go forced... my siggestion was that we go forced but instead of a turbo go supercharged. The model will be a JDM model.
What do you guys think, your opinions would be greatly apreciated.

Turbo it.

I suggested supercharged because of the more linear delivery instead of the on boost off boost of a turbo. Correct me if im wrong :S

keep it na
where it will be kept in the rev band
no need for fi
If you're going to race it, work out what events, what rules govern those events and what class you'd be competitive in. That should drive your build.
Otherwise, not much point about talking of building a race spec car when you suddently find out that you're not competitive in whatever class and have to make major revisions just to be able to race.

it would be a time attack dc5r.
where can i find those rule a regulations?
Find the event and you'll find the regs.
Time Attack = Superlap -> Look up the Superlap website
IPRA racing = Look up the CAMS/IPRA sites
Supersprint/Hillclimbs etc -> CAMS website
However, if you never intend to compete competitively and will just be hitting the track on open days, then, really you're not bound by any rules and can do whatever you want. Issues might only come when you decide to compete in a sanctioned event.
So best to plan long term, and for the car as well - a good platform to start with is also very important.
So, good luck.

IMO a built k24 would be the way to go as you would have better throttle response and a more linear power band which will be suited to track work (that and I'm biased towards allmtr).
If you are going down the route of forced induction I would choose a turbo over a supercharger as you have more options and tunability with turbo size and boost levels

Before doing any major engine mods, work on the sussy and learn how to drive the car. After you learn how to drive the car well, then add more power and you'll see significiant results
Too many ppl spend all this money on the engine and still net average lap times. Be smart and think about what are going to do before rushing in an spending 10k or more on an engine package.
The Stock Jdm k20 has alot of potential, so why waste such a good motor? Put on the regular bolt-ons and you'll be set to race

yeah
thats the plan, we will be duin sussy first with a strip out and just the usualy simple blot ons and getting used to the car, then the motor will be coming out. Weve set ourselves a few limits like the car has to have to original motor. I agree with fatboyz, why waste a JDM K20, its gonna be stroked anyway lol
Thanks for your tips guys... Got anymore?

e240 and fatboyz make the best points in my opinion. DC5Rs can be very capable with minimal work. Some suspension work, some weight reduction, bolt ons and a sticky set of tyres goes a long way. If you have a well running jdm k20a I would be reluctant to take it apart for no reason, and in the earlier stages of setting up a track car I think that better gains will be seen from suspension/setup changes and driving time. Save the money you might have spent on the motor for track day entry fees and consumables.
You could try and pick up a car that has already been track prepared in Japan, it seems to be invariably cheaper to buy someone elses hard work rather than building your own. I depends whether you enjoy the build or the setup and driving more. I have heard of some Integra one make race cars floating around for sale.
This will help im sure..

don't turbo it. turbo and Front wheel drive don't mix very well.
get some sussy, and fat ass front tyres like chargeR, and go from there....
