hey just a simple question....

noticed on the new s2000 the engine is placed sorta perpendicular?

does it matter if the engine is setup square on, or length ways up and down the engine bay?

jsut curious thats all...general question....

Hmmm trying to make some sense of that LOL!

But it is mounted the way it is because its RWD (like all RWD cars). As for the exact position i'd say the weight distribution of the car has some effect as to exactly where it goes.

FWD and 4WDs tend to have transversely mounted engines (like in civic and integras.

Doesn't the S2000 have a 50/50 weight distribution? That would explain the placement.

Pretty sure I saw that mentioned on one of the vid clips from japan.

That is correct.

Win i think Eric was inquiring about the actual angle of the engine block , which is sitting at close to 45 degrees i believe ? ( like half a v8)

My theoretical guees for this reason is to eliminate the rotaional mass of the drive train or to act like a " counter weight " for the engines desire to rotate more to one side ...umm , i just dont know the proper way to say this lol...

Ok , its to cancel out the engine damper , thus balancing the car exact.

( BTW there is a proper description for this...i cant think of it off the top of my head...)

The S500/S600/S800 motors were also slightly inclined.

Maybe it's just keeping the tradition... but somehow I think not ;)
