Hi there,

I know there are a few threads covering double dins and etc.
But i wanted to see what most users thought of over all practicability and what they would prefer considering that the placement of the after market head unit is at the bottom in front of the gear stick. Pretty gay if you ask me.

Im currently living off old CDs since the 04 euro doesnt play mp3 :(. ....gay so im really doing some research so i can get aftermarket already. lol

Just if anyone knows, what happens to the functionality of the factory head unit?
obviously it will still work for viewing controls but there wont be any sound if you tried to play radio off it correct?

here is a poll to vote. feel free to input your opinion for and against which ever lol.

Thanks.

:)

*edit
single din as in the motorized screens or if you think the screen is useless altogether lol.

It'll be impossible to get sound if no speakers are connected to the factory stereo :)

If you wanted a cheaper way to get MP3, you can look into the xcarlink USB/iPod adaptor which plugs into the factory stereo.

Yeah thought so because the speakers would be connected to the aftermarket unit. no fuss :) just wanted confirmation.

about the car link thing, i figured i might as well go all out if im going to spend money to get mp3 and aux and whatever else lol. thanks for the suggestion though.

*edit, all out as in i might as well get a screen personally thats intense bro :P

Do you mean quality wise with the visual display?

i mean im really only after the mp3 and aux compatibility, the dvd compatibility/screen is a bonus and something i have always wanted. so im not overlly fussed.

I know you generally pay for what you get. But are there any brands you know of that are over priced? or bargain for you buck. (no ebay hehe)
id rather deal direct when it comes to larger amounts of money.

I know it sounds cheesy, but you can't go wrong with Alpine. Awesome features and quality, for a great price.

I'd def go the double as they look a lot cleaner IMO. It looks a little awkward with the factory stereo and a single DIN.

what you are after is different from what I am after....

highend units comes with copper casing, gold plated RCAs, DC-DC power unit, 4V preout, good DAC, some extra functions like crossovers, Time alinghment, EQ, ability to do MP3 is a bonus. I think the most important in a head unit is the 4v preout, others is just a good to have function.

DVD and other video stuffs are kinda of a distraction to me, but hey, if you like it, go for it

So regardless of my search for a double din, i fell for a deal i couldnt resist.
JVC KD-AV7100 single din.
has a lot of features more than some of the higher priced units But a fraction of the price. Picked it up for $800

link to its specs.

yeah no worries, wont be getting it installed anytime soon though i got rego due --" lol.
stupid traineeship wage.
but ive tried to account for it. the screen is adjustable it can come out further and the angle at which the screen is tilted and be changed. Not to sure if other single din units do this. but it takes away that factor i hope.
will find out sooner or later.

yeah a few tilt e.g. clarion but so far people have only got the kenwood single din to fit... interested to see how it goes.

some people mount an extra metal bracket...

I custom my own double din :)))))6

i used to have a kenwood flip out single din. it was ok, fit nicely, but when i had to use the screen , it wouldnt come out smoothe with out hitting and straining on the volume knob, i fixed that by adding a small metal bracket to the facia kit so it stuck out and lower a bit more so it wouldnt hit.

even with the metal bracket it still rested on the volume knob and blocked all the air con controls wich was annoying.

soo now i have the top of the range alpine double din HU, in a custom made double din facia kit.

I had to custom make it becasue honda told they could get a double din facia kit in 7 weeks but i couldnt wait, pretty simple really just cut out the pocket underneath the single din.

i recomend the double din becasue it fits more snug and perfect. If you install it well, then it wont even rattle over bumby roads and it is impossible to steal if you secrure it right. (they would have to steal the whole dash if they wanted the HU)

any way thats my opinion i got pics and videos both my screens if you want to see how they fit.
