your head is farked. lol

Its almost impossible to drill it out. Your best bet is getting a new head mate.

If your that poor and you know how to install a timing belt; best to take cam cover off, loosen the belt and take the head off and attempt to drill it out. at the end of the day dont bother. Buy a new motor. your motor should only cost u about 100 bucks because of its demand it should be dirt cheap. Expensive part is the labor thats about it.

Always hand tighten spark plugs, never use a torque wrench.

If you can get the plug out then you can repair the stripped thread with either a helicoil or by tapping the thread. Had it done before to my car, cost me 50 bucks. Used ThreadTec, but the Thread DR also does that sorta stuff... apparently was very common on VWs.

If you have to drill the bolt out, then a heli coil may be needed to repair the thread back original width etc.

Always hand tighten spark plugs, never use a torque wrench or ratchet.

You need to crush the crush washer. And to do that you will need a torque wrench or ratchet. What the previous owner failed to do was to apply some anti-sieze on the threads of the plug. He could have also overtightened it or crossed the threads.

I should have editted my post. What i meaning to say was; hand tighten the spark plugs with a 1/4" ratchet. I wouldnt use a 1/2"

the crush washer doesnt require much strength to crush thus i would not recommend a torque wrench even though you could set it down to the torque specs. I find that doing it with a 1/4" ratchet, you more likely going to feel when the crush washer has been crush opposed to a torque wrench.

most noobs dont even know how to torque something to specs using a torque wrench lol

yeah i think this may be most simple way of fixing, im wondering if i should try an inner outter to get the leftover sparkplug thread out before tapping, anyone know if threadtec are able to do this?

there are professional thread repairers that can drill them out, have had same problem before, look in the yellow pages or google for "thread man"

our cost trade price was $50 to remove one snapped spark plug from a wrx boxer motor (alot harder to get to these plugs)

retail you'd be looking around $50-$150

I thought spark plugs were built to be semi indestructible considering they have to handle all the heat and combustion!.. This sure changes my perspective on them..

did you try an 'ezyout' or whatever they are called? they are like a reverse drill bit and you stick them in the snapped of thread and wind anticlockwise and it uncscrews the thread part that is stuck in the head!

i did the same thing about 6 months ago to my old d15 duel carby... overtightened the plug and it snapped off! i thought i was gonna have to take the head off but ran down to supercrap bought one and had it out in a few minutes... just gotta be careful bits of metal dont fall into your cylinder!
