View Full Version : [CL9] - Euro induction noise when driving?

Hi All,
My car has a constant "HUM" when you are cruising i.e 80km/h / 100km/h etc. with cruise control on. (Auto BTW)
When the cruise is on, you can hear the low level hum in the background. It appears to be coming from around the glovebox area.
Now it is not the fan blower motor.
I have turned the fan off. A/C off. Audio off.
When cruising and you push "cancel" on cruise control, the hum goes away.
Even without cruise on, just using the accelerator pedal, when you apply very slight throttle, you can hear the hum, off with the pedal and the noise goes away - silence.
Highway Honda say "road tested vehicle for hum noise. Found noise from cruise control is normal - only induction noise when cruise holds speed. Noise goes on over run." (as per my invoice)
Has anyone else experienced such a sound.
It always happens, no matter what. Should I take it to another dealer, or is
I just feel that the dealer is giving me the run around.
Open to thoughts / suggestions...

Try changing to a different gear using sports shift. See if the hum goes away. Could be a resonance frequency. My manual had a humming vibration at 2100rpm.
My car does this. It's an Auto thing. The car holds a high gear and the engine is at relatively low revs. It's just the engine working hard. Aaronng's suggested experiment should confirm that the noise will go away when you change to a lower gear.
It's normal. At least it doesn't ping/pink/knock (but not pre-ignite) like a CU2.

No difference when changing into sports shift i.e. 5th or 4th gear.
Still there!
Not sure what else it could be.

Generally as above, that is when it is most noticable. Constant speed.

I have diagnosed the problem, it is the K&N Panel Air Filter that I have in the car. I replaced it with the Stock Honda Paper Filter and the "Hum" goes away!
Maybe I can live with it?!

I have K&N with Icebox and i have no"humming".Try reinstalling the K&N and making sure its seated properly in the filter box.

The rubber seal on the K&N filter is not a perfect fit.

how did you resolve this humming frequency ?

the k&N filter sometimes doesn't fit perfectly you may want to try sealing filter. I guess you should be able to do the same thing done with the comptech icebox problem.

I think I have the same problem, its not a loud "hum" noise but it is noticable and it sounds normal. I can just bare with it :)

I have the same problem with my 2006 LUX. I noticed it since I bought it and it can get annoying.
I was going to ask the question on Ozhonda but could not explain the noise in writing.
I'm glad it is semi normal PS- I aslo have a K&N panel filter too soo it makes absolute sense to me now.....

Apologies for digging up this ancient thread. I just started to have this noise after my most recent service, I asked them to check my stock air filter to see if it needed replacing; they advised me it did not.
Since then, from around 3.5k rpm onwards the car has a subtle CAI sound. Not going to lie, I quite like it but my question is, is it detrimental to the car in any way? I opened up the airbox and noticed the seal was a little out of shape but still covering the opening.
If it poses no risk to the car in the long term I wouldn't mind leaving it as there is no drone whilst cruising, only increased noise upon acceleration.
Thoughts?

It's not exactly 'critical' but have you notice any loss of economy/power for instance?

I haven't noticed any loss in power\fluel consumption. Just did a 300 km trip averaged about 7/L on the freeway which is a little better than I normally get.
My only concern is damage to the engine; with the seal not fitting as well as before if there a chance that there could be contaminants let into the engine?

As long as the filter seals with the upper half of the airbox, it is fine. If there is a gap, consider trying to repair the seal or squeezing it to at least seal with the top half.
