View Full Version : VIC: Need help on choosing tyres. (Honda Jazz Vti-S)

Hi guys,

I am having some trouble finding a decent set of tyres because I have a budget and I've called around a few placed and have gotten quotes.

my tyre size is:
185/55/15

which apparently is a rare low profile tyre size which sucks and it makes tyres THAT much more expensive. I originally had Bridgestone Potenza's on them.

I was recommended MAXXIS MA-V1 Silica type ($125 each tyre fitted and balanced + $35 Wheel alignment) by a couple of places. Falken tyres ($137 each tyre fitted and balanced + $35 wheel alignment). Hancook K406 ($129 each tyre fitted and balanced +$35 wheel alignment). Silverstone ($120 each tyre fitted and balanced, wheel alignment-don't know price)

The guy at Bob jane said that Maxxis are really good tyres for their price. Daryl shave tyreworks also said the same thing. Falken's apparently are a lot louder yet they last the same. Tyre power claims that Hankooks are better than Maxxis and from what i've read on Silverstones, they don't sound very good.

It seems like the MAXXIS MA-V1's seem to have pretty good reviews everywhere over the internet. It's a good drive, lots of grip in the wet and dry, not a lot of noise etc.

this is the review from wheels magazine.

Not too sure what to get though because everyone has had different opinions. but i'm leaning more to the MAXXIS MA-V1's, reviews seem quite positive.

Let me know what you guys think. Also, if you have any recommendations of placed or a decent set of tyres, let me know

go for a 185.50.15 tyre there the stock jazz size, otherwise go wider to 205 or 215 if you can fit in a 50 profile.

you can run a 195/55/15
alot better than the stupid 185 size

my misus has adrenlin re001 on hers 160 a pop

On my Vti-S I have 195/50/R15, apparently their rolling diameter is 99% the same as the original Potanzas – 185/55/R15. On the front I have Pirelli Dragons. They are pretty good, but not so good for ware. I recon I will get about only 25,000 kms out of them. On the back I have Pirelli P6000, they are really good and have a nice sporty tread pattern. So far they have travelled 40,000 and probably will go to 45 -50. I saw in the current Bob Jane T-Marts catalogue on p6 that they are selling the P6000’s for $124.00. However, I think the P6000 has been around for awhile, so I’m not sure how good they are comparatively.

Maaxis are specialists in bike tyres and I've had them on a Liberty GT turbo current shape for about 3 years and they were fair to say the least.
They ended up running out of round and I replaced them with OE Bridgestones and the difference was amazing.
Mileage was great but that's all I'd say about them.

My mate's shop in boxhill have some good price in Toyos and they are really good.....pm me if you want more details.......

hrmm not too sure, still doing a bit of research. How much do Sumitomo HTR ZIII's cost per tyre? I've read reviews on them and some forums and they don't seem bad. Also Bridgestone Adrenalin RE001, is $160/tyre classified as cheap for them or is that the average price? God, I'm so confused. lol

I've been running Maxxis MAV1 195/50/15 on my Jazz for about 18 months now. A very good tyre, especially given the price. Not a race tyre, but who needs them on their road car, dependable grip in the wet and dry, wearing really well, good ride comfort, a little noisy on certain road surfaces, but any sport tyre is.:thumbsup:
