Hi all,
Just went to Westmore Honda in Bris to get all the goods needed to change oil. Anyway, I was expecting they would sell me something like Castrol Magnatec (as they usually use that in services) but they ended up 'recommending' Honda FEO "Premium Performance" Engine Oil 10W-30. He said there were two kinds, this and one for non-vtec. It was $50 odd bucks.
Anyway, has anyone used this and have found its good? I know its mineral-based... which apparently doesnt hold its properties as long as a fully synth like Mobil 1 etc.
But yeh interested to hear peoples opinions on it.
Thanks,
Andrew

It's a good oil for the price of $35. You being charged $50 is too much. If you go to the parts department of that dealer, you can get it for a lower price. For $50, I'd rather go Castrol Edge 5w-30 which runs rings around FEO.

lol.... this was from the parts department! :) Maybe prices have gone up because of falling demand etc. lately? Would make sense I guess.

Hmm, try calling other dealers for prices. If you are in Sydney, Mekong Spares in Canley sells it for a reasonable price. If in Melb, Hondwreck sells it.

90LAN... whats that meant to mean?
You can't bargain over price of parts at dealerships.... you pay whatever the price is. Otherwise, I need a new ABS accumulator - maybe I should say "hmm can you give me that for $300 instead of $500?"... I'm sure they'll agree..................

You guys are talking about the 'premium' feo arent you? The bloke said there were two types... so it could be the other was $35. Even if the 'premium' is only 10% better, I'm happy to spend the extra and just get it.
Westmore is normally the cheapest of Brisbane... ones like Southside always charge more for services and parts.... so don't think I could get it cheaper. I might call around just to see anyway.

Do you have a pic of the bottle of oil that was used in your car? There is only one "Honda FEO" oil in Australia. The imported ones have different names.

I'm pretty sure the one I got is a newer/different version - my one is called "FEO Premium Performance Engine Oil" and its 10W-30 API SL (note the SL). I have an old bottle of FEO from like 5 years back, and that is called "High Performance Engine Oil FEO Type R" and tha is SAE 10W-30 API SJ (note the SJ).
This is the pic of the bottle I just bought for $50 bucks:

Damn, that is the $35 one! The SJ version (red coloured label if I remembered correctly) is the old one that was replaced with this yellow label SL. Old one was about $30 anyway.

I'll call the other honda dealerships tomorrow and see how much it is..... but I fail to see how I could get it for $35. Maybe prices are higher in Brisbane because of less dealerships ???
That guy who said he got my same oil, oil filter and washer for $23 - I'd love to hear how! I had to pay like like $12 for the oil filter on top of the $50.

Now that we know which oil it is, you are better off spending $50 on Castrol Edge 5w-30, or when there is the 20% storewide sale, $40. That is a better oil than the one the Honda dealer is charging $50 for.

aaronng, thanks but its too late... I already bought it.
The main reason for the post was to ask peoples opinions on it - but it ended up turning out to be a "haha look how much you've got ripped off by".
As I see it, it won't be cheaper than $45-$50 here in Brisbane (as non-trade price). I'm going to check other dealerships, but normally Westmore is the cheapest. Will post what I find the cheapest price to be anyway.

Well, for now your car is alright. Better than the many other owners who cheap out and get Castrol GTX3 for $25! At least now you know that for the same price, you can get a better oil. No point harping over what has happened anyway. Look forward to the next oil change!

Don't know What you mean by going to the parts department, They I Imagine wouldn't sell it to you for any Less? Also, in my Service book of my 2009 Vti Honda Accord, it say's you can Only use The Recommended Oil, in All Honda's, have a Vti Motor? Which is Castrol FEO 10W 30 Oil, and any Honda Experienced mechanic will tell you, that you can use any Oil of another brand so long as it is of the same Grade? In Victoria.it seems they at the Honda Dealer Workshops, are Charging me $57-00 an Oil Change, and they say, this oil is a semi synthetic, but then there are people who are posting on this website, that they are using some other oil by Castrol that 5w 40, so I don't know. All I know is that $57-00 is a bit So and So Rich? And if you change Grades, you can Wreck your rings etc.,?
