[URGENT] Threads on distasteful topics in the Lounge. Please vote your opinion

Hi all,
We the mods really need to get your opinion on this urgent issue. Due to the recent rise in number of threads on topics with either distasteful topics (brothel thread) or on topics which lead to distasteful spam and arguments (homo pole), we need your votes on this issue.

Some members like Type S Tony said to close the whole lounge altogether. In my opinion, having a lounge is a great thing because you can ask about all sorts of issues and get opinions from people in the know (for example, the passport validity thread). So instead of closing the Lounge, I would like for you all to vote on whether we should disallow threads with questionable topics. Questionable topics would include:
- What drug do you prefer to do?
- Which brothel is best?
- Do you donkey/falcon punch?

You know, the type of topics that have illegal discussion or generate many complaints from members through the post reporting function.

Yup, that is why instead of closing the lounge, I would prefer that we stop the stupid threads. Keeping the lounge open is what I prefer.

Don't worry about the technical section. In this poll, it is only about the lounge.

Even though I don't drive a Honda I have a little blurb..

I think its fine to have this level of moderation in the forum, even within the Lounge thread. The topics started by some are offensive and even the ones that are started tastefully are bombarded by spam (eg. Nikki's hotmail issue).

I'm not sure what has happened, but I believe the level of respect members have for one another has depreciated throughout my years on this forum.

Some people have to be reminded that this is a "family friendly" forum, and the content has to be monitored. Just imagine a child was to click in on the "brothel thread" reading material that they shouldn't even be exposed to, its appalling, and to think that the thread lasted so long is beyond me.

From a personal perspective if the Lounge thread wasn't open I would reconsider visiting the ozhonda forum, as I am no longer a Honda owner..

thats why theres a poll in this thread, so that people can voice there opinions.

and progress results show that most people would have found your brothel/sexual orientation thread disturbing and inappropriate.
those 6000 odd views would have been a majority of people clicking on it to see what it was about, then clicking off it disgusted at its content.
alternatively, that 6000 odd views is mainly of you and a few other people refreshing the thread over and over again in a hope to spam a few more posts within it to get your "lulz"

Keep the lounge get rid of the offensive posts. It seems that a VOCAL minority of kids like to post stuff like has been happening lately. They just want to stir the pot and get a reaction to their crap like the kids they are. The threads are fine. For those whom don't like it, maybe an icon like the 18+ one can be issued to the topic to allow users to know about these sorts of threads. Then its up to the user as to whether or not they read it.

It should have been deleted. In an attempt to let members have a fair go with their threads, we tried leaving their controversial threads to run their way and hoped that they would stay on track, but that plan backfired on us.

No need to put Qball on the spot. This move to remove those kinds of threads was initiated by me. And yes, the azn and hot chick threads are at risk of being closed down if there members start complaining about them.

We've allowed those threads to stay given that theyre from way back before any of you were members.

That does not mean that we're going to let the lounge become inundated with sex oriented topics of a crude nature.
Everything in moderation is ok... however a few of you have stepped over this line and have persisted in posting up complete utter shit for the past few months.

Seriously Everyone,
I have felt for a while that the quality of threads has been going downhill, things like the Brothel and Homo ones were a bit off, (as are the racist ones) I don't have anything specific against either, but surely the whole internetz caters better to that kind of info to search.

I enjoy the fun that some people come up with, but theres times when this gets to be a bit like /B/ on 4Chan, and lets face it, let it go unchecked and OzHonda will end up on Conroys Banned Sites filter list (Remember the Pedobear Sig Thread?)

There are times when I can't find good information on some aspects of owning/repairing a Honda, but it's far easier to find out who thinks drugs are cool, or who can start the most gross thread.

I think there should be some freedom of speech, but lets keep it kind of clean, we should be proud to have a cool place where we can come and hang out, not make it a playground for really stupid posts that probably make the rest of the car forums think we are just a bunch of dicks.

How cool is the "Pic that made you Lol" thread, that makes my day, even if I cant see all the images due to my works firewall, but most of the time I just avoid the lounge as it appears like some 12 yr olds chat room.

Don't close the Lounge, just bring its class back to where it used to be.

I don't think I will ever change from owning Hondas, but if this keeps up I will find somewhere else to talk Hondas.

I like OzHonda for its relaxed attitude, which I haven't found on any other forum. Because I enjoy coming back to OzHonda I couldn't care less what other forums think.

It sounds exactly the same to me, you have been closing threads that are illegal and waiting for reported posts on the distasteful threads. It doesn't sound too much different at all.

Yes, I agree. What I have been doing is allowing threads to run along their way until they get out of hand and they get closed. So all those threads, including threads like the brothel and homopoll, went that route. But in the end they all turned to pointless name calling and got filled with gay insults. And the backlash for me doing things this way was from members who then said that I should have deleted the brothel thread straight away and not let it run for the many pages it did. That then gives the image that the mods don't monitor the lounge enough and then get more complaints that we aren't doing our job.

So with this poll, we are trying to get member feedback on what you all think about the recent influx of poor threads. I don't want to suddenly announce that every bad thread will be deleted and clamp down on everything. That is just too extreme in my opinion. I want feedback from members, which we are getting really good ones in this thread, so that we can fine tune our guidelines on what is allowed, what should be allowed to run until it gets out of hand and what should be deleted straight away.

Also, with support from all of you on mods enforcing this, it will help the mods identify these rubbish threads because members will make use of the report post function more frequently because they know that the mods are working on getting rid of these types of threads.

Its a Forum! its a place were people congregate to talk about certain things, in this case its our cars, but in talking to diffrent members over time relationships/friendships are born between people and enevitably over time the taling isnt just about cars anymore, its just human nature & thats the way we humans are built.

Its a Forum! its a place were people congregate to talk about certain things, in this case its our cars, but in talking to diffrent members over time relationships/friendships are born between people and enevitably over time the taling isnt just about cars anymore, its just human nature & thats the way we humans are built.

Sorry mate but the mods have more of a passion for the running of this site than you ever will. It appears that this forum is a bit of a joke for yourself and a few other members who do not provide anything constructive in regards to making Ozhonda a friendly place.

i hated moderating because of the lounge itself. that is partially why i quit.

As for your question, the 'line' can never be defined in reality.

Perhaps we can have a sub-forum in the lounge for all those sex depraved, drug addicts to post all they like. But have the lounge itself a family friend environment. Moderators can move offensive threads at THEIR discretion. Dunno.

I have my email linked to my email client on every PC that I have and it is checked everyday. I can pull up every single reported post from 3/3/2009 (none earlier on this PC just because I cleared the folder). On my home PC, I can pull up every reported post history probably from 2006. And no, I don't see you reporting the wog post in there when looking through this whole week's reported post. Maybe your report button is broken.

And please open your eyes. One mod not checking reported posts does not mean that every mod does not check reported posts. So stop ASSUMING things.
