basic question
is it better to change your whole air intake piping to 3"
or just leave the stock piping and change air box to pod filter
i know its probably better to leave stock box and piping but i am thinking
of running after market exhaust so mite as well to pod filter aswell
my car is a del sol b16a2
cheers

Depends what you want out of your intake.
Theres short - ram intake. Which is pretty much just replacing your engines air box with the pod.. but you can also replace the stock piping with metal or whatever for the bling factor
Then there is cold-air intake.. which relocates your pod filter to the front of the car near the bumper or wheel or whatever to suck in cold air.. as a short ram just sucks in hot air...
You can go either way...
short ram = less hp gain but better fuel consumption
cold air intake = more hp, less fuel consumption
Up to you what you want to do.. IMO it looks shit to stick a pod at the end of the stock piping.. grab a short-ram air intake system or cold air intake to suite your car

If your after a short ram style intake, your stock I.D intake duct would be around 3" or so... plenty, just place a & bell-mouth type hose/plastic connector & pod to your existing factory intake imo.

cold air intake means cutting into the base of the engine bay
i was thinking of re-wiring hi beam into the headlights like the usa spec del sol
then taking out the angel eys replacing them with mesh and running a pipe from behind the mesh to the pod.

No need to cut anything. For a CAI you run it where the stock piping goes. You can buy or make a complete system or you can make use of your stock arm either as a SRI or CAI. If you are going to make a SRI be sure to make a box/sheild up of some kind to sheild it a bit from hot air and heat radiation from the engine.
This is what I made up on my old delsol:
2.5 inch piping.

I have always wondered, what happens when its pissing down rain and your going through small puddles and water splashes up into god knows what and gets into your filter?
Bad for your engine i'd assume.
I'm paranoid as shit because of this lol

Nothing. A bit of water is no problems. Even a lot of water is no problems. Air will always be easier to suck in than water. Now when the filter is submerged, then you'll have a problem!
