Hello,

i got a quote for a PPE plastic mugen bodykit from a shop in Hk. they source the kits from japan and they're not too sure of the price to ship the kit to sydney. Just wondering if anyone has shipped a bodykit in from HK and if so how much they paid for shipping.

Mugen aAuthorise dealer from HK
I take its from GTSport. Ask them for an estimated shipping price.
then add 27% I think it is for tax and duty.

other method is, if u can find a feight forward company.
maybe u can ship it cheaper, not too sure on it.

30% tax? i thot its only 15% duty charges (goods cost + shipping), and another 10% GST of the total figure. And i think if u can prove the goods is made in japan, its only 10% duty charge.

so 175.43859649122807017543859649123AUD for shipping.

here is how customs will slug you.

$1500 x 1.15 (15%) = $1725
shipping $175.50
$1725 + 175.50 = 1900.5
$1900.50 x 1.10 (10% GST)
= $2090.55

You will probably get hit with a customs fee to process the item as well.

maybe i can help a bit...

15% import duty, 10%GST, loading fee, quarantine fee, broker fee, document fee, shipping fee, storage fee, handling fee... the list go on... 30% is convervative to be honest, it can go more if you are not using a good broker and freight forwarder...

just shedding some lights on how much work need to be done to bring things in...

also doesnt matter where this item is made from... all car parts is 15% tax. no quesion asked...

when i picked up my stuff, i put down a country code which is entitled to only a 10% import duty. However, i was told by the lady handling my document that i need a proof to indicate that the goods is at least 50% made in that country. As i was not able to produce it, she switch the import duty to 15%. The countries code and their respective import duty is clearly stated in the handbook at the custom. Some country like Singapore, for example do not require stamp duty on certain car parts.

countries are categorise into code DCT, DCS, DC .. i remember wat else. and they have different import duty for different parts imported.

more info can be view here http://www.customs.gov.au/site/page.cfm?u=4401

an example of how these charges can be calculated can be found here
http://www.customs.gov.au/site/page.cfm?u=4368#1

if u r familar with what tariff code to use, u might not even need to pay import duty. do a search i believe someone in the forum import a turbo kit from US without paying import duty.

TypeG

Tax issue...

Has anyone ever received car parts from overseas and didnt get taxed at all???
I do believe that not every car parts bought from overseas is taxed when they are freight to Australia.Well, its just that i have done that a few times and i want taxed at all.May be I am lucky but thats not the point now.Meaning that there must be a way not to have to pay tax... Custom are at times pretty lenient. They mostly focus on taxing parts brought into Australia for business purpose but not for personal use.Perhaps I am wrong. Cheers

Personal good over a certain amount is not taxed, I think under $400. However some car parts are taxed. If you freight stuff over it will most likely to be taxed, but if through normal post or small items using express blah blah u probably pay nothing. Big Parcel or heavy things they will most likely to open up. Depends on alot of stuff, if custom like to tax u they will. Plus they do have a records of stuff that comes in. In the end Aus Custom is just troublesome. :thumbdwn:

I also found that expensive car parts (over $400) sent to me from overseas wearnt taxed if they were listed as a 'SAMPLE' in the transfer/Postal documentation.

i get taxed on 100.00 item before... believe it or not, they are very inconsistent... and yes even if sample, they want a value for them. either way if u do sample too many times, u will get caught one day. but yes small parts generally okay... big boxes.. they want to have a peep and there u go...
