Is it possible to remove just the speedo (and all the gear that is needed for it to work) from a cluster? Or is it too much work and not worth it?

Cheers

yes it is, flip it upside down and you'll see it's held in by philips screws (2 or 3, can't remember) and then just slide it out

Did this the other day on my EG. Just remove the 3 screws at the back and it should pop right out.

Speedo will come out but not the face that's held by the needle.

Yeah, see I want to put the spedo (inc face etc) in a different cluster by itself... might be a bit hard to do..

ok
undo the two screw at the top of the cluster trim and remove it from your dash

then you will see 4 screws at each corner of the cluster remove
lifet out cluster

you will have a couple of plugs in the back of the cluster remove them

now you will see there is a wire at the top going to a globe unplug it

now you will see there are 7 black plastic clips holding the black face on the cluster
undo these and the face comes off

now all you have left is the 3 screws in the middle of the back of the cluster undo these and the speedo will fall out

to install just follow in reverse

any further question just ask im online or pm

Yeah but that only removes the speedo along with the odometer attached to it. What about removing the face of the speedo itself from the odometer?

It's being held by the needle attached to the odometer without any screws etc.

i wouldnt suggest it ; ive tried it many times, and ive asked around here and on other forums that it may cause damage to the needle's accuracy later,
as for my success - i failed and i could of puit more strength but i thought id break things,

let us know how you go!

last time I removed the needle from the gauge, i just used a fork to pry at it gently... attempt at your own risk

dont do it! my mate did it just last week cause he wanted to paint the needle a different colour. stuck it back in and is now no longer accurate.

Luckily I tried this on an old speedo. Was trying to remove it so I can use some acetone to remove the varnish behind so new LED's light can shine through but it proved to be too much effort and you're bound to damage the front of the face.

bump,
ive found a way to do it safely,
use a fork, put it underneith, and pull up
its not that hard compartively to your hand,
it will pop right out.
good luck

sorry for late reply the only way you can get the speedo to be accurate when putting the nedle back on
is to plug the cluster back in to the car turn ign to on (not acc)then put thre needle back on

the reason for this is when u pull the needle off the pin moves this then puts it out of align
so when you power it back up this then returns the needle to 0 ..so this is the time to return the needle
or you have put the needle in the wrong place and the speedo will read wrong
