Do you have an antenna thats stuck half way and wont come down? Sick and tired of it? Well stress no more, read on...

Note: The subject antenna is from a CRX del sol.
Cause: Motor is dead or antenna is slightly bent causing it to not go down.
Aim: To put the antenna back to "full retract" position.

Tools and things needed:
The subject antenna
Philips screwdriver
Small flathead screwdriver
sth to take a small nut off (eg Plier)
Thread
Degreaser
Newspaper

Step 1:
Spread Newspaper on work area

Step 2:
Take the subject and place it on the newspaper

Step 3:
Use Screwdriver to unscrew the screws circled in green

Step 6:
Once its been remove, put it aside then pry out the plastic piece using the small flathead screwdriver

Step 7:
Once its out, slide it along the antenna line to put it aside.
Then unscrew the 2 screws holding the motor (in green).

Disengage the motor teeth from the gear so that the gears can move freely. When the gears can move freely, you can pull the antenna line to retract the antenna. If your antenna was bent like mine. you would need to take the antenna (steel part) out of the whole casing and use a lil bit of force to push the shorten the antenna. You will understand what to do with the line and the gear once you reach this step.
I dont have pics for this part.. hands were dirty.. but its all self explanatory :D

Step 8:
After you are satisfied with what you have done, screw the motor back in place and put the plastic piece back. Turn the antenna line and hide it in the round thingy and put it back all in place.

The lines will spring out when u try to put the casing back on. This is where the thread comes in handy.
loop it over the round thingy and the back casing like so (the thread in the pic is loose cos i didnt pull it tightly)

It holds the round thing and prevents it from springing up while u put the casing back on.

Screw the casing back on and you are done! Congratulations, you have a retracted antenna! no more fuss!

Step 9:
Oh yeah! and use the degreaser to get the grease off your hands!

Very well done!

I have this problem but I never use my radio only if it comes on accidently then the aerial goes up and I have to force it down after the car is turned off. It's not often that happens though, thankfully.

I wanna remove the bloody thing but then there will be a hole there and I don't like the tape look lol

ReP 4 j00!!

if you go to any auto store you can get or order an antenna block of from aerpro then just pull out the antenna and block it off or just reacj under the antenna and just disconnect the wires or just pull the fuse ....either way job done no fuss

hey thanks beeza, my antenna got ripped off by a tree n i sealed the hole with tape for a good 5 months till i got another antenna. :D

mrgrim: well, i didnt know i had that plug option and furthermore, mine dont cost anything ;) prob some of us would prefer the antenna to remain there rather than a plug too, but thanks for the info!
