Anyone has the mugen gauges in their euro? Do you know what colour is the face during night (low beam on) from the image looks like green but is that apply for euro as well because i don't think it will match the dash very much :p

What do those gauges actually measure?

water temp, oil pressure and oil temp

You sure you want to spend a grand plus for gauges?

A grand!.Spend that money on some decent mods not on gauges.

Gauges are good, especially oil temperature and oil pressure. 1 grand on gauges? That's about $330 per gauge. Hmm, need a good think on that. But I can say that with gauges you do sort of get what you paid for. I have $120 gauges (price of each) and the oil pressure one is already stuffed. Plus the cheap ones overheat.

I suppose oil temp.would be handy but only if you track your car.Where can you mount them apart from the obvious spot in the middle of the dash?

on the A pillars for those without the airbags

Oil temp is handy for street. As soon as that needle hits 70 ºC, it's WOT time! Oil pressure is handy for anywhere, especially track but sometimes I question whether it is worth having a meter that reads the wrong pressure. LOL

I put it in the center storage compartment under the A/C control. But mine is an 04, so I have space.

I don't think cops like this position though.

Maybe you need a temperature gauge for the gauge :p

Yeah! It gets hot enough for me to pull back in pain from the heat! LOL

I think it's the cheap backlighting. or the cheap stepper motor in the gauge.

what if its flush with the pillars with matching fabric not just mounted or screwed on?

That's the one that cops give you shit for. Best would be to put it below dash level, but still viewable.

Check out this guys set up. He's using a scan tool called AutoEnginuity and can access data from a couple of hundred different sensors. The scan tool costs around $500. I don't know how much the screen and installation would cost.

On an Euro, you don't get oil pressure and oil temperature readouts with the AutoEnginuity.

Thanks for letting me know. I've never looked for those parameters before. I'll send an email to them to find out whether they can incorporate this into their software.

To get those readings, you need a sensor that reads that first. Then the AutoEnginuity can read it off the ECU. The Euro has a on/off oil pressure switch and no oil temperature sensor at all, that's why the AutoEnginuity can't read them. It's not their fault.

Thanks for clearing that up. But what happens if the oil temperature gets too high? What monitors/regulates that?

gaugues are important.
i use to have defi gauges and it saves me. in my previous car, i didnt know my oil was running low. oil pressure flashes up and i panic
still drive the car home like a baller
next morning, check oil over and its below the low mark.top it up and defi is healthy again!

Nothing does. The Euro has a tiny oil cooler which sends the heat to the coolant, which has a thermostat and coolant temperature sensor.

Which brand do you have? I was quoted $60 for a replacement sensor. Trying another place for a quote before purchasing.

Where does the sensor get placed?

Mine is on a sandwich plate measuring pressure upstream of the oil filter. Doesn't tell me the oil pressure in the engine galleries, but it shows if my oil pump shits itself.

And does this same sensor also give the oil temperature?

No, oil temperature is a separate sensor, also plumbed into the oil sandwich plate.

Leaks? From where? Is it a mechanical gauge? Did you use high temperature liquid thread sealant?

i have a question. with the euro's digital coolant temperature reading (holding auto + dual on ignition, etc), what sort of coolant temp indicates it's safe to WOT, and when it's safe to redline? i'm sure it doesn't correlate exactly with oil temp. thanks

I have timed it and from 20 ºC, it takes my car 3-4 minutes of driving for the coolant to reach 80 ºC. The engine oil takes longer, about 11-12 minutes to reach 70 ºC. So you could say that you should wait twice or three times the time for your coolant to reach 80 ºC before you use WOT. Of course, other factors like the use of the heater can extend the time for the coolant to reach 80 ºC but that shouldn't affect the engine oil temperature that much.
