How do you guys find the braking system on the Euro?

Well, my car is around 5,000km mark and I started to push the car to in terms of accelerating and braking just to see what the it's limits are like. I find the 6,000+ rpm sound addictive!!
Anyway, I also find the brakes on the Euro are quite weak to be honest, it's got 2 huge discs and good size calipers in the front and I expect it to pull up nice and strong but I was quite wrong about it.

It had good initial bite, but faded quite quickly when I step on the pedal harder. Sometimes I overshot the corner because the brakes weren't up to the job. Coming from a small 1000kg hatch with good braking system into a 1400kg sedan I already allow myself to brake earlier than what I did in the hatch but the car just won't pull up as I expected to. ABS didnt kick in or anything I just brake hard but not hard enough to induce ABS.

Maybe we got shit pads in our Euro or something...

What are your thoughts?

Almost 10k kilometer's on my Euro, and I must agree. I posted this comment on one of the TSX enthusiast sites with regards to top speed. By comparison to my previous car (an old Holden lemon) the brakes are fan f***ntastic, but have noted they do need a bit of a determined squeeze to bleed of speed into corners.

From a high-speed run they had me quite concerned with a constant thumping type sensation, like a blistered tyre (which none were) when applying medium but firm constant braking. I still haven't found out if this was the ABS or "warped rotors". I honestly didn't feel like I was braking hard enough for the ABS to activate, but ABS activation might also be speed dependant.

Afterwards they seemed to pull up from 80kmh quite nicely, and a panic stop from 60kmh very rapidly, though if the ABS activated for the last stop I couldn't feel it through the pedal. I feel they're fine for daily driving and it's only when you start "spirited" driving which the engine urges you to do and I do all the time, that they start to show their weakness. The brakes are certainly an area for consternation among the TSX forums. I'm considering a brake upgrade within a year, where my only concern will be the ABS system functionality, and warranty. Might give some better pads a try before going to drilled and slotted discs.

Baboo - that definately sounds like ABS not warped rotors.

The Euro brakes don't have the best feel and don't "feel" that powerful in ordinary driving. They need quite a bit of pressure to stop quickly.

I can tell you though with a full emergency stop they are pretty damn impressive. I have stopped from 60kph in a full emergency in the dry in a surprisingly short distance (I didn't see the stop sign!). When the electronics detect a full emergency the brake assist applies 100% braking force, ABS goes crazy and the brakes haul ass... Do try it and I promise you will be impressed.... With the Euro - don't baby the pedal in an emergency - slam it on hard and fast and you will see results!!

yeh i hafta say that the brakes are a bit weak, although i think the pedal feel (not response) is pretty good.

my mums subaru liberty rx's brakes seem more bitey, but the pedal is hard to modulate- theres a bit of dead travel, then it suddenly bites as opposed to the euro which is more linear throughout despite the lack of braking power

the rear discs look tiny

It is definately the pads, I suppose to be nice and smooth which they are when driving sedately. The Euro I test drove seemed to have better brakes than my Euro. My missus did a brake check on the highway in the demo car which scared the shit out of the salesman. I was in the back laughing but the brakes were really good.

Even my girly says the brakes are soft so they definately are! New "ENDLESS" pads should do the trick.

When i step on the brakes hard...there's a thumping feeling too, i don't think there's anything wrong with the car...just need getting use to...

I find the brakes ok for such a big car. Was able to stop within 20 meters at 55km/h in the wet. This was done at an advanced driving course.

PS: Pump your tyres to 40 psi and try to stop. You'll find that stopping and handling in the wet much better. Also learnt at the driving course. Don't worry, tyres won't explode. The recommended psi is for comfort and a "plush ride", not performance, so keep that in mind.

My only complaint about this car are the brakes.. They are rather weak in my opinion. After a few rounds of testing, they lose alot of grip.. I'm surprised it lost out so much for such a car...But hey, this is not a sports car, it's meant to be more towards the luxo side of the market...

The pedal and car shuddering is the ABS kicking in... nothing to worry about...

Pfffft. Media.

Stupid ad. Once enough speed has been scrubbed off, the guy should have been turning the steering wheel to avoid the truck. Shows how stupid drivers are. Not us of course.

yeah, and as if you wouldn't se a fking semi crossing the road!!!

My girly should have used the brakes today, she got fined for speeding to work. 109 km/h in 90 zone. $100.00 and 1 point. She told me that she got up to 140 when overtaking. I might have to take the keys off her I think. I never get fined, she does all the time.
