hello:wave:
hey guys just got a problem after installing a custom made headers on my d16y4..after it was installed white smoke started to come out from the headers..not from the head gasket but from the headers piping itself..when the car is started its not there but after its rev for a while it starts to come out..
do you guys think theres a leak on the pipes?

yea sounds like it. you can't see whereabouts it's leaking out of? get someone to block the back of exhaust and have a look at the headers to source the leak

yeah its pretty weird cause where the smoke is coming out doesnt look like theres a hole on it..is it still safe to drive it around? or further damage can occur? and also is it normal for the headers to heat up so quick =S?

did you spill any coolant around it anywhere. it's alright to drive around for now i guess. but if there is a crack it'll just keep on cracking. you'll end up losing alot of pressure and power.
pretty normal for it to heat up. think about how much heat engine produces, all has to go somewhere :p

sounds normal... most headers will have a certain smell and smokiness when new because of the oils/resins on it.
if it's not leaking from anywhere and it's coming off the surface its normal

ive checked the joints of the pipes and i couldnt see any holes..its a custom made headers and i bought it secondhand..how long do you think the smoke will last 10mins?

Could be the cleaner that the previous owner used on the header before selling it. I had nice white smoke after using stainless steel cleaner. LOL
The smoke should stop after 10-20km of driving.

get someone to rev the car and you stand behind it, when he revs does the smoke dissappear.
could be a cleaner as someone said. but could be the start of many more problems.

It's coming from the header piping, not the exhaust tip.

sounds like a shoty cylinder to me. same thing happened to a wrx i was working on.

it shouldn't be a shoty cylinder though? car was fine before he put the aftermarket headers on

I'd reckon it was just WD40 or similar that he used before loosening the bolts off.

It may be some residue on the outside of the headers which is being burnt as the headers get hot. Can you see it coming from a certain area (near the collectors) or is all over?

lol at some of these comments. as some already mentioned it cud be a cleaner or wd40 burning off that the previous owner applied. did u use a gasket sealant? that stuff burns off too for a few k's. dont stress and just drive it.

im having a look tonight as i just got home from work! the white smoke smells like burnt plastic or fumes. When the engine starts nothing is there but when reved it starts to come out from the two joints of the pipping. Im hoping its just dirty oil in the headers or cleaner on the surface of it. If it is how long will the smoke go away?
thanks for the help guys btw..

aiight after i warmed my car, i left the engine on and reved it a couple of times then the white smoke disappeared =]!could have been some cleaning stuff the guy used before he sold it to me. i will check it agen later when the car is fully warmed down if the smoke is still there.
but after it was warmed down. after i rev the car smoke comes out of the exhaust =S! (btw my muffler is not put it on properly as i lost the springs for the bolts)
is it because theres smoke cause the muffler is not connected properly? or is it because it just rained and yeah lol need to b warmed down
last ques. if i have a broken cylinder will my car be making this sound?
this is the sound of my car atm..

if u had a messed cylinder, u will definately notice a massive drop in power!
sounds normal to me, although sounds like ur tappets may need adjusting..

might not be but older car had same noise, was that a cold start up, cause that would just means belts just cold and still in shape. but if that was when car was hot, then something up with one of the belts, usually a tear

From the vid, I can hear that at 0:19 your valve clearance needs adjustment (get this done) and that at 0:28 you have loud injectors (not really an issue)

Your car sounds more and more like a diesel and you lose power. I'm sure some other part will wear as well since the tappets are hitting the valves.

how much does it cost to get tappets and valve clearance adjusted?

tappets/valve clearances..same thing..
around $100-120
engine has to be cold so it's usually done in the afternoon if you drop a car off in the morning.
