Hey everybody,
Hoping if any of yo'll can help me with my dilemma:
I've got the opportunity to buy an Integra DC2 Type R JAP SPEC which is a real tight package, to good to let go. The car isn’t currently registed or have any slips (straight off the boat). But I am having a major issue working out how I can get it road registed and legal.
I know in NSW that no1 has the compliance plate for it, so how did u do it.
There must be a way!

If any1 can shed any light on the situation please let me know

Regards
Hopeful

As far as I know you cannot comply a vehicle that has an AUDM equivilent ... there is already an ADM type R so it cannot be registered unless it is a personal import.. and to do that certain criteria needs to be met...

Have to have purchaed the vehicle in Japan and owned it for a 12 month minimum period in Japan. Then an Australian Citizenship is needed before this can be imported as a personal import...

I was looking into importing and registering a JDM ITR myself and I couldn't find a way of getting around it...legally.. and i asked alot of people..

Sorry if I shattered your dreams mate, but mine were too...

If you want a type R... best way i could think of doing it (not the cheapest), import an unregisterable ITR (for race use ; i think a level 3 cams licence is needed along with proof of current tracking), buy a GSI ... do a fully body swap.. internal, external the lot ... then get an enfineering certificate to certify it ... but its kinda pricey that way

The only way to do this is to smash a dc2r audm and claim total loss with this jdm as a rebuild??????

Thanks for the fast feedback guys, very efficient!
I had a feeling i was goin to hear news like that.... I hate some of the laws in this country!

The other option i considered would be to join a car club, apply for a CAMS license, apply for a rally license through the RTA and drive the car on the road that way.
The only prob is i 'technically' would have to be either driving it to a CAMS event or the workshop every time i hit the streets.
I've considered how that car looks similar (barring the front end) to the OZ spec and the average cop would know the wiser. So driving day to day wouldn't be such a prob..
Does any1 or know any1 that works it this way???

Gosh i dont know.... is it really worth the hassle?

it wouldn't really be feasible to try and use it as a daily driver (if you imported it under the race/rally use only method). Couldn't make it road registerable, so no insurance.

afaik, the only way to do it would be to 'rebirth' it... that is, through a written off aus spec dc2R. There is a legal method of doing it, but there's some scrutiny/criteria involved... for details you'd better check the RTA (? vicroads in melb thats all i know) site. I'm not sure if you can even do this in sydney?

IMO... it's not worth the hassle... try to find a JDM DC2R that's already here... or buy an aus one and do the conversion yourself (if you're that keen on the jdm front).

Dude I saw that crazy JDM ITR on sale on classifields... it's a crazy price

And thinking about it, the person's selling it at a crazy price becuase he/she knows that they can't register it.

just swap the plates. do a dodgy with someone or a wreckers.
Apparently you cant do this anymore.
The plates/firewall (or watever) u get from a wrecker will be already recorded with vicroads or your states TRA as an unrepairable write off, so registration wouldn't be feasable i dont think?

If you really want to be dodgy, import the car, get a friend/family member with an itegra to go to vicroads and order a replacement rego sticker
and a new set of number plates ... just say you want the slim line ones or something and stick all that on your import. So there will be 2 cars registered under the same name... then its all up to you to take the risk

I know a guy who use to do these dodgies, ie register evos and gsrs as local GL lancers and stuff but speaking to him yesterday, he said its nearly impossible these days

NAH that wont work...
rego numbers are linked to vin chasis number and engine number... if a cop was to pull you over chances are he'll check all 3....
unless you know an engraver who can 'change' the engine number then its pretty much a no no...

anyway why are we talkin about illegal stuff .... tsk :D

if you REALLY REALLY REALLY want one... goto NZ buy one live there for 1 yr and import it back... :)

Can I buy the car here and keep it in japan for 1 year?

Does that count?

or speak to someone over there who will agree to export their Type R, they're everywhere (you could even pick up a 4 door if you like)
