Hi,

Very broad question, but i was wondering how much a decent upgrade in power from a d16y8 in an ej8 1998 to another engine was? What type of engine would be best for this aswell?

ive got about 2grand to play with atm. do i need alot more?

thanks,

i spose a b16a would be considered mate, and yes you would need more than 2k

2 grand will barly do anything for you unfortunately in relation to engine swaps,
if you can source them out for cheap + labor, as suggested above a b16 is your best bet, but again, youll have to source it out quite cheap comparitively to what they tend to go for on ozh.
and again labour your going to have to find a cheap source or DIY,
DIY + cheap b16 is your best bet for 2g's

if 2g's is your stand point and willing to go no further, id suggest spend it on handling mods
sway bars strut bars coil overs and so on.

ozhonda sell their engines expensive, b16's arn't even worth how much they are asking for on here, 2k sounds like a fair price for a b16a, labour is different story, and you will also want to get it blue slipped, as kcokla said, diy if you can if not expect to pay 800$ labour,

ok... now with 4 grand.. u might be able to get engine and box for maybe 2k or 2.5k if ur lucky, now if u know how to do a engine convo then thats great you can spend ur other 1k on exhaust system and better ecu.

but if u dont 4grand wont do it shit sorry mate

yeh mate i would probably save a bit more then at least you will have more choice and should be able to get a good quality b16, i considered a b16 swap for my ek1. Obvisiouly not as good as a b18 but i think a b16 is still really good for a civic

4 grand will you get you a complete b16a2 installed, talk to some backyardies, plenty of people selling their b16s for 2800-3500 complete motors as well and another 600 to install

no you will need a b series gear box to run that b16
no need for engineers cert, just get it blue slipped, to match your vehicles i.d

i did consider a b16a for my ek1, just interested in hearing thoughts from people who have put a b16a in their ek1, in your opinion is it worth it?? Also rough idea how much it costs to upgrade the rear brakes on the ek1?

roughly 250-300 for rear brake upgrade, b16 upgrade in my opinion is only worth it, if you got the civic cheap
