hey guys
just wondering,
i want to respray a front bumper but its got rock chips/scratches on it, nothing major
normally when respraying they sand then primer then paint right?
if so then when they do sand down the bumper say, would the rock chips/scratches etc on the bumper still show up when the final product is finished?
OR would i have to get the bumper fixed up first before taking it to get it resprayed?
cheers!

really depends how bad the scratches and stone chips are,
and how bad the damage to the bumper is
scratches will generally go out, and if there deep you can sand them down and as for teh rock chips, same applies really, i guess u could also use fillers being plastic and all.
if this is your first time i suggest you hold your horses and do some mroe research, its not that easy especially to get the glossy finish !
look into paint types, acrylic, vs 2pac aswell, makes a big differences.
id suggest unless uve got all the tools like a spray gun and air compressor etc etc, to just take it to a panel beater,
itll be around $200-250.
reason is you'd rather do it right from the get go instead of waste your time,
but good luck if u do it yourself, just make sure u do more research
pm tiksie he's got alot of info on this

i worked in bodyworks, i know the answer.
Generally the whoel bar is rubbed back with 800wet, then the chips are filled, generally with bog. Most scratches will come out when you do the rubbing back, those that dont are filled too.
If the stone chips are severe, like you tailgate a truck to work everyday along a dirt road for three hours then they entire bumperbar, or the affected area, is sanded back with an air sander, usually about 250 grit just incase you do go back to the plastic, it wont rip it to bits.
For the price, i suggest you pull if off yourself and take it to a panel beater. Friend of mine in tassie does them for $100 cash after hours.
