View Full Version : EG6 gear ratios
autocross civic EG 6

I have just had the transmission out of my 1994 EG6 Civic SIR for the second time this year (as detailed in another past post in the technical section). I do not have a lot of confidence in the existing transmission and may consider buying a backup second hand gearbox as I run an autocross series and it is not too clever to miss a round.:(
The notes provided by the original builder state that the transmision in the car is "standard Honda Civic" The car also runs a Kaaz 1.5 LSD
Does anyone know whether the EG6 gearbox was in any way different to any other Civic unit of that era ? I am particularly concerned about the ratios as they are currently very close and I do not want them to be any different in a spare gearbox. What Honda transmissions will bolt straight into my car? Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks (Steve)

Well of coarse any B16a box will fit, The b16b gears a little different an i believe theres some difference in the b16a1 and a2 ratio's in the 2nd or 3rd gear but i cant be 100% sure.
I think the b18c box's might also fit on the b16's as they have similar block mounts but i also cant be 100% sure on that also.
Maybe someone can help confirm.

your b16a box would have a 4.4fd
any hydro box will fit from any b series vtec motors
best to get the 4.4 itr 96 spec jdm one same as your with factory lsd
or you want it to be shorter you can get a 4.78 fd from any 98 plus itr gb

Thanks for the amazingly quick response guys. :thumbsup:I am mainly worried about 2nd and 3rd gear ratios as whatever I have now is very close and works well. By the way I just looked at the notes supplied by the original owner/builder and he says it is a 4.7.1 Integra type R final drive with a Kaaz 1.50 LSD.

After throwing around $1700 at my gearbox this year (and having it in and out of the car around 5 times!) we have now decided that it has been so abused that it might be best to start with another box that has not been used in competition.:( I have contacted a couple of wreckers. So far none have got back to me. If anyone sees a B16a box could you please let me know.I would prefer something from a wreckers (in Victoria) with at least a 7 day warranty so that if we put it in and it proves defective I can at least take it back and try again.I managed 3rd in class and 20th O/R (We had over 120 cars competing would you believe) in the Victorian Club Autocross Series round at Maffra last weekend which still leaves me 2nd overall in Class for the series but it is a bit of a struggle when you have to drift the thing through a corner while holding the car in gear in case it jumps out when you hit a patch of corrugations. Running a series with an event every month does not give you the luxury of time when the car needs work which is why I am hoping a Honda enthusiast here can help me shortcut my search.:) Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Steve
