I think there was some speculation on a possible FN2 RR some time ago.
Anyway, I very much doubt it that it will make it's way Down Under.

It may look like the FN2 in the clip below.

would Mugen really do that though?
the R26R is faster than the FD2RR
and they want to make a FN2RR even faster than a R26R?

i dont think Honda aims to beat the R26R. i think they want to apply the "theme" of the R26R onto the FN2R. (ie. more focused/hardcore)

R26R never gained much power over the normal Megane Sports. they just striped it down and track tuned it.

I agree.Sometimes the British publications do tend to add their own "spin" on things.
The R26R I believe, was faster than the Focus RS around the track when the "Drivers Republic" tested the high performance hatches.
Well, all we can do is wait and see what transpires.

According to AutoBlog (http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/20/mugen-civic-type-r-hatchback-restores-former-glory/), the Mugen FN2R boasts;

upgraded suspension and 18-inch wheels, giant front splitter and rear wing, huge exhaust, and a powerplant putting out 237 bhp and 160 lb-ft

So that's a ~28kW increase and a ~23Nm increase the Mugen FN2R has over the stock FN2R.

It looks amazing, and sounds it from that YouTube clip.

According to another website (http://www.pistonheads.com/news/default.asp?storyId=20110) I was looking at it will cost approximately £35,000 - £40,000 ($71,980.15AUD - $82,264.53AUD). In my opinion it's a lot of money for performance figures that could be gained using a range of other quality parts, but each to their own, I know I'd love that wing :)

Here's a few more pictures, of one in the metal;

Even in the scenario that Australia doesn't see any of these Mugen FN2Rs, we can always turn to our traders and get the parts we're after sourced to Australia from Mugen.

I had a website which showed the approximate pricing of the Mugen parts for the FN2R but I can't find it, if I do, I'll post it up :)

Good find MMike with the real pictures.
I'm not a fan of huge rear wings however,I admit the wing on the RR looks appropiate. It looks great while the car is moving and when it's at standstill.

Anyone one here works for HONDA? I really want to know if AU HONDA would bring it to AU. But i reckon the price will be more than 50k.

nice find..............I remember fith gear saying it cost around $26K GBP to get the FD2R through private import in UK...........so an approx $10K GBP premium is quite...........huge.

the look of this reminds me of hell boy.........

Some more news and pics of the Mugen FN2 RR.
Piston Heads have driven it and they plan to show the video at a later date on their website.
Although it will not come to Australia,I'll be looking forward to the various British motor publications reviews and comparisons of this car.

lol i know the FN2R has a k20z4 but when i first read the pistonhead article it stated that it had a F20A in the mugen CTR but actually it had a K20A. They obviously edited it knowing there was a mistake, readers on pistonhead also picked up this mistake so ya.

PistonHeads took one for a spin.
Quite suprised by the suspension comments.

On a random note Mike, how did you paint your calipers? Obviously with paint, but can you give me some pointers? I have an FN2R as well and I'm looking into painting the calipers. Your's look really awesome with the white 'Type R' text showing through.

The EVO magazine recently tested the Civic Type Rs(FN2s).The standard CTR,the one equipped with the lsd and the Mugen RR FN2.
EVO carry out their test of laptimes at the Bedford West Circuit.
The results of the lap times were as follows:

Type R: 1.34.9
CW Type R: 1.31.8
Mugen: 1.28.6(faster than the Megane R26.R,RS Focus,Merc.6.3 AMG and only 1/2 sec slower than the Porsche Boxster RS)

N:B The FN2 Mugen RR's time was faster than the FD2 and FD2 Mugen RR.
The CTR with the lsd was only 1 sec slower than the RS Ford Focus.
Just bear in mind although the track times are very good for the Mugen, they still reflect only it's performance on one particular track.

The above clip unfortunately is crap.

somehow i don't really believe the fn2 mugen rr is faster than fd2 and fd2 mugen RR. woot mugen :)

lukits01

FN2RR has same engine and brakes as FD2RR
but it's lighter, shorter wheelbase, better tires
if it wasn't faster, then Mugen=Fail (or FN2=Fail) lol

somehow i don't really believe the fn2 mugen rr is faster than fd2 and fd2 mugen RR. woot mugen :)

On that particular track the FN2 Mugen RR seems to be the fastest.
I prefer to focus on other COMPETITORS such as Renault,VW,Ford etc rather going down the "That Type R is faster than the other Type R"path.
We all know that the FD2 is faster than the FN2....what else can I say?
Now can we move on ?:)
I actually wasn't too interested in the comparision, but rather I wanted to
find a track time for the FN2 Mugen so at least I could have a quasi-gauge
and see if it was capable of "shaking up" the competition.
The fixation on FD2 Vs FN2 Vs Mugen RRs I believe, has somewhat caused people to lose sight of Honda's competitors.
Does anyone know what reputation the R26.R has as a track weapon? It's phenomenal!
Doesn't anybody think that the FN2 Mugen did very well on that particular track against the Renault AND the RS Focus-both turbocharged cars!?!

Mugen still have to add the 'finishing" touches to the Mugen RR, but by all indications, the fastest Type R could very well be the FN2 Mugen.

The reviewer seems to complain about the"noise"but to me it sounds great!
Autocar's bias toward Renault again comes up!The R26R is an awesome machine however,it sounds like a vacuum cleaner(from the inside) in all of the clips I've seen so far.
I'm not quite sure about the remarks concerning the suspension, does he want it to be more comfy?Anyway he describe it as a work in progress,he was mightily impressed by the engine!
