Hey Guys!!

Just wanted to ask what size are the standard speakers in the DC5R?

I was looking at putting an Alpine sound system in my car, anyone got any comments or recommendations. I was looking at the type R speakers. Does anyone know if they will fit?

Thanks

Umm installing a stereo in a DC5R is an absolute bitch, i would suggest geting a professional to do it. It might cost a bit but it will take you ages to do it yourself and there is a lot of mucking around involved.

All you want is two sets of splits and a 10inch sub..... 6 by 9's are pretty useless in my opinion....

Get the new Alpine DDR splits, i think they are about 500 a pair.

Focal Poly K's up front with a 10" Poly-k sub. Now that would be nice!

Do a search on clubrsx audio section.. plenty of hits and tips for installation.. I installed the head unit/amp/front speaker and all the wiring myself.

Its pretty easy the only pain in the arse was installing the headunit, because of the plastic panle u have to remove where the cigerett lighter is took me a while. And the rubber lumb in the firewall it was fun getting 4 guage wire through that. I put alpine type r stuff in mine it was good

if ur running subs in ur car, dnt bother geting 6 by 9s or 7 by 10s, they will be useless coz u already hav the subs for base. Settle for different spreakers.

On a DC5R, forget about fitting a 6x9.. as you suggested it'll be alot of trouble.

DC5 uses 6.5" speakers all around.

installing speakers into the rear is pretty straight forward, but the doors are a pain since you may have to cut bits and install spacers.

front speakers of up to 40mm mounting depth don't ned spacers...anything above that might need to cut bits of the door and spacer to fit

i installed my front speakers last week, alpine 6.5" components, piece of PIE. And i'm a chick! THere is a thread in the audio section (search for it) where somebody has given me a link to a website on how to pull off ur front doors. its so so easy. it took me 45 minutes to do each door install. just a word of warning, on the actual black plastic door bit on the inside around where the stock speaker is, cut that off if u want to put in alpines or anything in general, cos the spacer wont fit otherwise. believe me. trial and error. nothing fits flush back in the door, cos the original paper speaker is so thin.

if you need any help on front speakers, just send me an email nikkiv@utas.edu.au, or add me to ur msn if u have it nixta99@hotmail.com

With boot install, sub, amps, i put a piece of MDF under the carpet and bolted down the sub and amps to it, just so u can get to the spare tire. I put two strips on each side of the MDF underneath to lift it up so cables wouldn't get squished and they hide easier.

Head unit. just need to pry the black plastic bit that holds it in, start on the left top about 2cm down that is where one of the clips are. pulls straight out, change over head unit, just a word of warning, speaker wires are coloured really weird. Like the ground is black, and i think the power is red, and then the battery one is like green with a white stripe? or white with green stripe.. its got a stripe that i know! and its really weird. so you wouldnt otherwise pick it.

haven't done back speakers yet. but thats just a clip as well where the mesh is. unscrew, clip wires, put on those lil silver cap things (dont know their names) and put back on the positive/negative.

oh yeah, i think the green with stripe is positive. non stripe negative. wires are all weirdly coloured.

oh. my set up is type R 6.5" components in front doors, going to get just 6"'s for the back, maybe even another set of the components cos my subs are so bassy. head unit is the 9855R (UK model) thats a LUSH head unit, top of the range swing faces. Sub is just a type S 12" 900w, Amps: 2xT420 2/1 channel 700w amps, one is running front speakers (great great great set up) and the other amp is for my back speakers when i get them. running the sub off a mono block MPD or sumn, its a V12, cost about $500-600 and i'm just waiting for a bit until i get my second sub of the type S variety. its a very clean crisp system.

hope that helps.

but yes, dont bother about getting it pro done its a wate of money most places charge $60 hr minimum. and if it takes 45-1 hr to do each door, prob 1/2 hr max on each back speaker, then sub, amp install, and then all the running of wires, your looking at a good $400-500 for an install. when it will cost you a few hours.

Autobarn sell all the wires etc. u need and those lil metal clips for the speakers.

Hey i tried installing 6.5 type r speakers in the back and they dont fit.
And with the front 6.5 splits do fit but u will need a spacer (i did anyway).

But anyway my setup is 2 sets of type r splits 6.5 front and 5.25 backs (i think), headunit is an alpine 9831 and i also got 2 10inch type s subs.

most front speakers won't fit, i got those pioneer yellow cones with tweeters. have a cut a little bit of the metal door off so the speakers would fit

I managed to install 6.5 inch type x splits in the back with no problem or modification (same if not deaper than an R). I did use the supplied bracket that lines the holes up to oem (only so i didnt have to drill new holes though) So it is possible...

i installed pioneer splits up front with spacers (MDF from repco $5), just had to make 4 holes since the OEM uses clips

works fine, just gotta position them the correct way, keep turning the speaker till it fits nicely coz the rear plugs may get in the way

the rear i managed 6.5" with no bracket, but could only do two bolts with was enough

hmm well the depth wasnt the problem for me, but i just couldnt squeeze the 6.5 speakers into the hole so that i could screw em in, but these are the old type r's iam talking about not sure whether these newer ones are different.

Interesting, i'm not sure how the type X compare in basket size to the old R's, i do know they are slightly wider then the new generation of R's. I did take the side panels off when i instaled them (not just the grill) as i flush mounted the tweeters into the panel (not the grill) Did u only remove the grill? If so thats probably why.
