hey guys just have a general question.. about 2 weeks ago my EM1 got defected for the rear tyres and exhaust... i have fixed the tyre problem and have tried to fix the exhaust but when i went to MIDAS today they said the wheels were good but the exhaust was to loud.. before the exhaust had 1 resignator in it... so i put one more in which gave it 2 resignators to try and silence the sound, but they still said no... but on the defect notice.. it says
" Exhaust to comply... "
does this mean i need a stock exhaust sytem for my EM1..
and if so do i need it all the way through from stock headers to the muffler or will the stock muffler be good enough to pass????
please HELP need to be cleared by friday????
andd.... need to look for stock exhaust for EM1 thanks

nah its not but i took 2 resignators out of it lol but i need it to be quiet now... :(
rofl... fark they're targetting em1s in sydney... I got defected on sat =[ When I get mine cleared you can borrow my stock exhaust after if you want lol. I don't even know if i'm supposed to change the muffler or not.. mines a freaking twin loop... so it might even comply with that adr28. Oh and do they charge you the +$50 everytime you failed the test?

Easiest way to get round stuff like this is just dont get pulled up, dont downshift near the doughnut munchers and pop the clutch if you do see em. Never been pulled in the Ek for loud exhaust mine is easily over the limit.

stock exhaust
Stock exhaust is always good to have around if you plan on running an aftermarket one that makes a lot of noise.

You might wanna take it over the pits as it is now. The cops might just be wrong and you might get passed. My car is really loud when it revs up...3inch + turbo + screamer....but on low rpm and idle its fairly quiet and i got past the pits as it is but i still got a yellow for it. Worth the try.

in sydney a screamer pipe is an instant defect

lols, awesome, so i still sort of know all the owners of the car. besides the very first owner.lol.
before the pro-racer on the car, it used to be a xforce. and wen the pro race came on (installed by westside mufflers) it was so silent that it almost sounded stock with the AEm cold air intake.
i also heard that it sounds like there's a hole in the muffler, like the cannon part, check for that. cos that car has been up and down wilsons carpark alot in the city.lol
ps, ur cars power is 111.3kw atw if u had the cold air intake

Just to make this clear on everyone here, a screamer pipe is an instant defect in any state in Australia. Omissions exiting your car not passing through a catalytic converter is an instant defect. Seeing as that a screamer pipe dumps directly into the atmosphere this is exactly the same.
I've never been defected with it though. I have been defected for something else and had to get it plumbed back to get the defect off but that was it.
BUT!!! this is the awesome part. I have actually seen someone make it legal. I thought of this myself and googled it. Effectively if its not to loud, putting a small Motorbike catalytic converter on your screamer is completely fine and abides by Australian omissions laws. A cop or pit examiner can say what ever he wants to but as long as the gasses pass through a cat, is secure and isnt obove 86db then its 100% defect safe :)

RESONATORS DO NOT DO SHIT for noise, they are used to change exhaust frequency but are primarily used to remove exhaust rasp. Goto a proper exhaust shop that stocks and installs MID-MUFFLERS
If your local hektik exhaust shop doesn't know what a mid-muffler is, tell em to demote themselves and go back to putting tyres on a car.
Goto Performance Exhaust in Northmead.... hakkan got my twin-loop from sounding like an open header to an actual muffler

only for cars built under the Euro III / Euro IV emissions schemes/years which are like cars after 2000

Im trying to find this muffler...
http://www.tlc-japan-imports.ca/images/rnn14-005.jpg
Then im going to add a mid muffler also cos that small thing by itself would be way to loud.

N/A >>> Turbo in terms of noise
Yer turbo sounds much better....
Limbo

lol yeah N/A always louder, the exhaust goes thru the turbo first so it already takes most of the muffling in the turbo before it goes to the exhaust

You can't have exhaust gasses exiting out of the engine bay. I'm not sure of the exact rules but they exist to avoid exhaust getting into the cabin. At best you'd be able to exit after the rear doors, at worst behind the last cabin seal (i.e. the boot, where the stock exhaust is). Kinda defeats the purpose.

Ohh of coarse for the screamer you would need to exit at around the cat area.
