i keep hearing the jdm dc5 itr is detuned compared to the audm itr. . . what exactly does this mean? essentially they have the same engine rite? same internals? so how is it detuned? like through the ecu or something??

Sorry, it's the opposite side, AUDM is the detuned version. Completely different engine which means the internal and also the ecu is different

can someone confirm the internals are diff from the japan spec?

i wouldn't call it a completely different engine, some people seem to suggest it has lower compressions pistons, not sure what else is changed.

i dont know about the internals but i do know that they remap the ecu to be used for aussie fuel (which is crap compared to jap fuel).

Engine wise, same basic design. Here are some differences off the top of my head in the AUDM:

smaller intake manifold
iVTEC only on intake cam, not on exhaust cam
different valve springs (S2000 valve springs not 100% sure about this)
different ECU map
different exhaust manifold/CAT/exhaust system

Added to what FunkyR said...
Differences are as follows...
JDM is 11.4:1 C/R vs AUDM is 11.0:1 C/R
Single valve springs are now used in both the JDM & AUDM models...
Early JDM units had doubles but not now...
The springs are interchangeable with the F20C from the S2000.
Such the TODA S2000 valve springs are K20A valve springs are S2000 springs etc...
The JDM intake has a larger plemum & shorter runners...
We've got one on the wall in the showroom if you'd like to see for yourself...

+ the BREMBO 4 pot brakes & forged alloy suspension arms / different dampoers & sway bars...

Cheers
