check your vehicle speed sensor

pull off the cluster and there 3 massive reclangle wiring plugs that connect to the cluster. Unplug and plug back in all three also wiggle around all the wires and push them into the plugs, make sure there firm.

Sounds like somethings tripping. I had this issue about 3 years ago. Same year same car. 93 1.5 carb eg4. tiznt much that anymore but when it used to be. I just did what i said and it came good.

^^ this.

Or you have a faulty connection in the wiring from the VSS.

i call VSS as well, if the fuse was blown it wouldn't work at all

I think it has something to do with the signal from the VSS or the sensor in it. cutting in and out occasionally.

I think start with some small things, check fuses, check back of the cluster wiring. If that doesnt help then go to a wrecker and grab another vss. Only two 10mm bolts unplug and replace. easypeazy

I got a similar problem....sometimes it goes down to 20 from while cruising at 60, and other times it'll jump to 110 when i'm only doing 100. But in my case, if i tap on the cluster's plastic...it fixes itself...but then comes back later.
I think in my case its just the cluster getting old, because i've checked all the wiring. Plus temporarily swapping in a replacement cluster seemed to fix the problem.

Having said that, i have seen the speedo do funny things when there is a short somewhere in the wiring and a blown fuse.
