View Full Version : S2000 service..
Well as the title says. Where is a decent place that some of you have taken yours? Oh and i kinda posted it somewhere else except i dont even know where i just pressed search and it came up so i pressed it lol -.- anyway whats the difference from a major and minor service? Is it worth getting an early major? OHHHH and im looking more at honda dealerships but would consider going to a different place to get it done.

just do it yourself. the only "hard" part is probably valve adjustment, and even that looks pretty simple.
fuel filter may be a bitch to get to though

hi guys
i need help with engine oil. Im currently using castrol 10-w40 oil but ive noticed that the s2k is using still to much oil. the car has done 120,000kms now and ive been told that apparently i need thicker oil such as 10-w50 and so on. Im hopefully going down to a honda dealer in essendon tomorrow to get some advice on oil but would appreciate some input and advice from the real honda drivers.

the s2000 is known the go through the oil its normal.
Lol i dont think your oil is ment to get thicker as your k's go up does it? Try a full synthetic or semi synthetic wont munch it as quick.

i take mine to honda every 10th thousand, every 5th thousand i do myself with everything... i only take just to honda just to keep the logbook happy.
lol so i called honda, i never knew our major was just over 1k -.- plus he also said its upto you when one would get a major some s2000's dont need it till 100k-120ks to get a major done.. depending on how often the car has been driven.. So im thinking leaving it till then, as its only been an everyday car for about a year now.. it was a weekend car from 01-08 apparently.. according to previous owners lol.. What do you guys think? or is he completely wrong, the honda tech that is..

Check your PCV valve to see if it is worn. Test using air pressure. Otherwise, just change it since it is a cheap part.

Get a list of what is done during a major service.
Is it just an oil & filter change, valve adjustment, brake fluid flush? Or do they also do a diff fluid change, transmission fluid change, accessory belt replacement and fuel filter replacement?
nah the minor is just a oil and air filter change for $240, the major is replacing all fluids + filters.. I dont need the oil filter done as i just did that today lol.. Is there a tutorial around for doing this stuff yourself?

the major is valve clearance adjustments and diff fluid
no way thats all a major could be. because diff fluid is $115 no way valve adjustments can be 1k in price..
chicken8
22-06-2009, 03:33 PM
i didnt say that was all
you said major was just all fluids
i was merely stating what else is in it
i don't know why i bother coming into your threads. most of the time its a completely stupid thread
the major is valve clearance adjustments and diff fluid
Your an idiot you just implied thats all a major is. And if you read what i said it says; All fluids + filters. I didnt just say its only fluids did i? And if you think its stupid because im asking a question on where to get my car serviced dont come into the thread its that simple? So you sir are an idiot, congrats on reading btw.

i didnt know filters include valve clearance
and all the questions you ask are answered in your manual
and the majority of your threads are stupid in my mind. and you'll note that i was blaming myself for coming into your threads

wow diff fluid is $115?
that would mean $101 labour charge just to drain and put new fluid back in.... haha.... 15 minute job... so yeah $1000 is expected for a 'MAJOR' service... just sounds big so charge big.

Again can you read? You implied that was all. I also did the same and yes i was mistaken there was that but atleast im not that retarded to admit it. So everything i ask is in my manual? So lets go with the thread about my gearbox which you would have definatly read without a doubt. I can bet that in there it doesnt say anything on how to fix my gear. whiteAP1's advice worked great. Maybe im on here to get information from others on where to get it done or if its worth doing it myself. So again congrats on reading retard.

lol yeah i was abit gob smacked when he said 115. But i'd rather him do it until i figure out how to do it myself lol.

jack your rear up, right under the diff there's a huge 24mm (can't remember exactly) bolt right in the centre of the diff facing down, undo that and drain it... after drain, bolt it back, then somewhere near the side of the diff there's a 17mm (also can't remember exact) bolt, undo that then use a pump or a 500cc syringe and pump 0.9litre of diff fluid in.
keep pumping until it leaks out (while OFF the jack/ stands)...
DONE. easy. save yourself 100 buks... u only need to buy 1litre of diff which is ~$13-14 per litre
Sweet, i'll check it out today or tomorrow. What kind of diff fluid do i use? and wheres it bought from haha.

just use honda diff fluid , and get yourself a pump from supercheap, or a 500cc syringe.
should be ~13-14 buks per litre at Honda as i recall... or buy Redline diff oil which cost a lot...

note that theres i think 4 different kinds of honda diff fluid
since the S2000 is RWD you can't use the fluids that go into the civics.
i believe theres a normal diff fluid for the regular FWDs, theres another diff fluid for the CRV, MDX etc and another for the S2000 and NSX
think they're GL4, GL5 and GL6. unsure which is s2000's

GL seems to be common convention
honda uses VTM in front of the number

i remember something from years ago. not sure if it was GL5
but yeah most honda dealers will sell you the one from the CRV which i THINK was GL5
i gotten it before from the dealership. took it to hanny's and he said its the wrong fluid and my diff wouldnt make it to the next service with that fluid
again. i THINK it was the GL5 that was the wrong fluid
but then it seems to have AP1 in the reference code

Hey guys, first post! woo.
Here is a good pictorial on how to change rear diff fluid:

I could not find the mobil synthetic oil( 75w-90) anywhere,
so i settled for the castrol version: http://www.autobarn.com.au/products/10/225/1732481/
Picked it up for around $20 at Mekong Canely Vale, usually 25% cheaper than most places =)

i finally went to the honda dealer 2day in essendon and they told me that the type of oil im using which is 10-w40 is the best 2 use after 100,000kms. they also said that s2000s naturally drink the oil and need to be topped up regularly. they also said that the f20c engine needs to be driven like its being thrashing because thats how the engine was made and by being pushed, the engine is lubricated properly. If it is driven 2 soft, the oil will go like that. quite weird but i guess thats wat u get 4 having a sports car 4 daily drive

i was under the impression that the oil burns due to the way the oil pan is designed.
and as the car goes through corners it burns oil

No it's a oil control ring issue actually. Putt it or thrash it they chew oil. Some little some lots.

Motul all the way. I used to use X-Cess 8100 5W40 and that let the engine rev very well but recently I used my mechanic's recommended Motul X-Cess 8100 10W30 and that made the revs rise and drop at a more controllable and smother rate.
