Hi guys
I just called up Honda for OEM brake pad replacements. Got quoted $188 for fronts & $185 for rears.
Is this normal price as it seems a bit expensive. Anyone know where I can pick it up cheaper.
Reason why I searched for OEMs is because people say it doesn't wear out your rotors, not much brake dust, etc. Does anyone have any other recommendations apart from OEM?
Thanks

honda will always sell you products at a higher cost than other places because its OEM.
try bendix or EBC products at repco or autobarn etc.

when i bought bendix pads for my EG (242mm), they costed around $86 a pair for fronts from burson...repco/supercheap might be able to sell for slightly less...

That's a big price difference! From your experience no probs with your rotors? excessive wear, etc.?
My rotors are kinda old so yeah don't wanna kill em off just yet

rotors condition depend on how hard u usually brake, whether they're warped or not...sometimes u need to machine the rotors to make the surface even, but if u wanna be sure, just measure the thickness
bendix pads are just normal OEM replacements, they're not top of the range pads but they do their job wonderfully:)

What bendix pads do you have Ray? You got front & back?
prices quoted sounds right for honda pads from honda.
is your eg5 an si or vti? si has 240mm front rotors and vti the dc2/eg2's larger 262mm, not that prices for pads and rotors vary much between these 2 sizes.
plenty of aftermarket decent pads to choose from such as Ferodo Excel, ts2000, EBC black, Lucas TRW. They all give off dust some what, some worse and the others. Lucas gives off very dark carbon dust and chews rotors but good sharp pads and around $60-70 for front or rear.
RDA pads very cheap at a fraction of the lucas, good up to about 380C, moderate wear on rotors, need rotors machined/new rotors or they tend to squeal.

all EGs have the same front disks (242mm), doesn't matter between breeze all the way until Si/VTi

that's NOT true Sydsyd, Aust spec EG2 CRX came out with 262mm rotors and late EG5 VTi had 262mm rotors too from the EG6 which never came to Aust market.
and EG never came out with 242mm rotors as you stated, 242mm rotors are found on ED civics. Info on various rotors info can be found on dba.com.au as a pdf document.

my EG Si came with 242mm rotors up front. but im quite sure that the Vti never came with 262mm rotors up front. the only EG civic which came stock with 262mm rotors, is the EG6. DBA are silly, i almost ordered the wrong parts going by their online catalog

i saw that too, i myself have an EG5 VTi, it has the same rotor size as any other AUDM EG...i had bought a set of DBA rotors for my EG, and the store i bought them from gave me the 262mm because they went with the DBA catalogue, which u have higlighted already, turned out the catalogue was wrong...
if u're talking about the EG2, or what we know as del sol CRX, they do come with 262mm rotors, but del sol CRX is not the same as civic EG, they just share the same chassis...
as much as the catalogue helps, i find that those catalogues can be misleading at times (not always)...

I've got a late model 1995 EG5 so I guess the best way would be to take it to a brakes place and let them have a look at it.
Anyone recommend a good brakes place in MELB?

dba have there info wrong as the "eg vti" in europe is a eg6
only thing i can think of is if the EG5 ever came out with abs then
maybe it might have 262mm (dba474) rotors. But every EG i have worked on
have 240mm rotors (dba473) and no abs.
same as pads, bendix, ferodo, have there catalogs messed up
240mm pad - db1259
262mm pad - db1262, db1286, and i think there is one more cant remember.
take a photo of the caliper/rotor and you can tell 240mm from 262mm straight away from the caliper shape.

Yeah i don't think my car has ABS so it must be the 240mm pad one
I bought bendix general db1262 cgt 262mm? (92-95eg) and they don't fit, so i would need the 240mm ones as above db1259?
just need some clarification.
