Hey, I'm in the process of getting a standard rebuild for my B18C2, my dads mate who's doing the work suggested that i get adjustable cam gears now as every thing is opened up so i was wondering:

A) is it worth/any point in getting adjustable cam gears while retaining stock cam shafts

B) whats the advantages of having the cam gears he said it opens up alot more tuning capabilities.

My plan is to boost it once the rebuild is finished, he said these will help with the tuning is that true or has he got no idea as he hasn't done much work on honda's.

Also if i do decided to get them, i need to source and buy them buy monday, so any help will be appreciated.

cheers

cam gears help to allow move where your power band.

It also allows the cams to overlap abit
When tuning it can help especially in a boosted situation.

When i adjusted my cam gears on my stock b16 it helped the car quite abit it seemed more torquey

Thanks for the quick reply

So its fine to use them on the stock cam shafts?
i don't quite have a full understanding of how it all works, I'm researching as we speak.

Any recommendations on a brand, i thinking skunk2 pro series as 999 has a 20% sale, Toda/jun are out of my price range.

is there different types suited to boosted and na applications or are they all similar?

i got skunk 2 also, u want ones that have more bolts to lock the cam gears in place so they don't move.

they move ur power band, i don't know how to explain by allowing the camshafts to be slightly out of phase with each other. This also increases camshaft overlap which helps with scavaging of exhaust gases

so you just adjusted the cam gears while leaving other internals and cams alone?

i wouldn't do it if it's a stock motor and you're not getting it tuned
just up the timing to 18deg

money on cam gears is probably better spent on tyres or something
