hi guys, iwas reading a few threads and realised i'm getting really bad fuel economy, approx 300-350 km per tank ( until there are no bars left on the indicator ), driving around sydney. Are the people getting about 500km/tank doing city driving? or is my fuel consumption really as bad as i think it is? thanks!

[p.s] also where do u guys wash your cars? are the automatic washers at the bp any good? or the prepaid ones? thx

ALSO i used premium fuel ><

how many km's have u done?

i'll assume its brand new... when my car was brand new i had pretty bad fuel economy but over time i can now get around 400-450 ish, don't keep an accurate track

oh, i've done about 3500 km's :confused:hopefully thats the case , really not liking the fuel economy atm, having to fuel up every week or so. thanks for the reply btw

Your right foot is also a likely culprit :D

his calling you a lead foot =]

he means that you press the accelerator too much

pressing the accelerator is possibly the best explainations

because i could only juice out roughly 200kms
but i dont drive for long distance, heavy footed and usually air con on

i am trying not to turn air con on and try pressing it not as hard, see if i could make a difference =]

well when my car was stock i got around 580km with about two bars left (most i ever got was 610km)left using bp premium unleaded. however since i got 18's and lowered it i got around 480km with the odd thrash here and there

if its new, its gonna be bad, i get about the same as you on a full tank. and my car gone 4000ks as it is now. but i do very short daily drives in traffic, about two 5-10 min drives one way in traffic, don't worry too much, just dont thrash too much haha =]

That's terrible!

I get 550k from a full tank

few months later, still doing really bad! 300-350 with 0 bars left still. at my job though i have to drive in and out of a carpark to move my car for free parking every 4h ours, and i do this quite a bit. Would that really affect the fuel consumption ? the people getting 500/600 what do you use your car for and how long average are you drives? thanks

Yes, that will cause poor fuel consumption because you are driving short distance with your cold engine. What is your fuel consumption in litres per 100km? Just divide the number of litres you fill up to full tank with the distance that you drove with that tank.

14.7 litres per 100km =/

wow thats horrible.. one of my mates evo gets roughly the same but hsi pushes x23i2139usdfpds9fu34 mroe powa then our little shit r18's..

i get roughly 600/tank.. litlte bit of highway driving but mostly start stop traffic to and from work/uni/here there to eat etc

could it be something wrong with my tank? Our tanks capacity is 50litres right?

the auto does get lower fuel economy than the manual. ive got an auto, but i do about 450km with about 5ltrs left and i thought that was bad.

maybe consider doing maths and working out weither it is better off for YOU to leave your car in the car park and pay the hourly rate then to fill up.

i know carparks are expense but might work out cheaper.. you never know.. maybe look to park somewhere else..

14.7 litres per 100km =/

That is quite bad. Measure again when you get a chance to drive a tank of fuel without having to move your car every 4 hours to see if it improves.

maybe you travel relatively short distances??

coz my car travels from one end of a suburb to the other....
this is why i think i cant go for 400+ k's

and ive only been driving for 800km......think ive already visit Shell for abt 5 times now =[

i get 13L/100km atm. on an 08 civic sport, auto, that has only gone 5000 kms. and i'm pretty heavy footed.

I hear from everyone that it gets much better after ur car has gone like 10k kms, just needs to settle in etc etc...

and yeah i do very short drives on a daily basis, so that just ruins the fuel consumption even more.

won't be moving my car for a while at the carpark from now on, but still going to do relatively short drives 2 suburbs away, =S hopefully ill at least push it past 400 though .

just do looong detours, up and down ur highway to get to that suburb :p. u may take longer to get there, but u'll probably get more distance from ur tank LOL!
...and warm up ur car before u drive

The I-VTEC system on the FD1 is totally different to performance oriented VTEC systems. It is designed to work under low load with light throttle openings, the parameters being governed by the ECU alone.

Once you learn how to use the system the FD1 is capable of producing remarkable fuel economy. I had an FD1 Auto for 2 1/2 years & 60,000km, over which time I averaged 6.78L/100km with a best recorded of 5.8L/100 & a worst of 7.62L/100.

There is no noticeable difference in using 95 0r 98RON fuel, while using E10 decreases power by approximately 10% & at the same time increasing fuel consumption by around the same margin. So using E10 is false economy.

There are 2 things that govern fuel economy, 1 - The environment in which the car is driven & 2 - the way the driver uses his right foot. In the 2 1/2 years I owned my FD! Auto I never once had the low fuel warning light come on under 600km. Now as a Comparison, lets compare the Fuel Economy of my Current CU2 Euro Auto - just over 16,000km with an average fuel consumption of 7.2L/100km with a best to date of 6.47L/100km. So a current model Accord Euro uses approximately 0.5L/100km more than an FD1 Auto. I have spreadsheets available on all fuel used in both cars.

Have a read of this article.

hmmm.

i've noticed my fuel consumption is much higher now, ever since i hit that curb.
Its from 530KM to 480KM per tank before the light lights up.

Do you guys think a wheel allignment will fix this?

yep. Since ur out of alignment it takes extra power to be able to accelerate.
