Hi Everyone,
I decided to upgrade my stock stereo as the CD player is playing up but it turns out that the problem is the head unit. Oh well, had to take out the seats , center console, head unit. boot lining and the panels behind the seats .
My 2000 model S2000 has the 6 stack Honda CD stacker in the boot protected by a steel cage. Behind the passenger seat is where the excess stacker cable was bundled but behind the driver's seat was a large flat, rectangular box with a battery back up taped to it. The box is about twice the length of a car alarm. Does anyone out there know what it is? I thought it may have been an alarm but could not feel any relay clicking when the alarm is armed/disarmed.

The car has an aftermarket alarm but I still have not located the control box which is not obvious under the dash.Anyone with ideas on where it may be?

Also, when i attempted to remove the glovebox area and teh secret compartment, I had the center console trim off (the part that has the gear boot) and then I removed the two fornt srcews and the screw from inside the glove box as well as the 4 screws at the top and then there was the sound of clips flying off but I did not manage to remove the whole assembly so I placed a USB/Ipod connection inside the secret compartment and then replaced the glovebox area but can someone tell me how to get the whole thing off? Maybe I missed something?

Thanks in advance if someone can help.

lol @ the sound of clips flying off.. I took my plastic thing off where the roof folds down to get rid of the ugly vibration noise and broke almost every single one of those clips/plastic screws.. but i dont even know where your talking about exactly.. behind the drivers side inside the ****pit or boot? cause i know inside the ****pit behind my sit there isnt anything of the sort there.. :s

Hi F20 C.
I felt really bad when I broke two clips so I stopped.
Right behind the drivers seat there are two hook like things which hide screws. You take those screws out and the clip things come off.The the simulated air vent panels comne off.Inside there I found the massive (about 25cm x 10cm x 2cm) box with wires sticking out (about 16 wires) and it seems like on the other end there is a thick coaxial cable attached like a lareg antenna cable and as mentioned before, there is a back up battery attached (just taped onto it with wires going back to the unit).

Just need other responses to tell us how to take off the secret compartment.,,without breaking the whole lot.

Thanks. Now that I know how to put photos in, I just have to get them in URL somewhere.Once I figure this out, the phto is going up. Just need to practice actually taking the photos now!!
I described it to people at work and they all concluded that it is a bomb.:o

show the box in more detail. The foam grey covered thing is attached to the long Coax cable and ends in a solid rubber coated looking rectangular attachment out of which sticks a tail. The box has no markings and that's about it.Any ideas?

Have you tried unplugging it and testing if anything stops working. Ive got no idea what it is, but considering its location could it have something to do with the roof or perhaps your car alarm.

Perhaps speak to a few people who have swapped their roofs and have experience with that area/end of the car or grab a helms manual and start reading.

I have done 8 roof conversions, and have never seen that box before. It could be a back up battery for an alarm?

There you go, doesnt seem to be an OEM product. Must be for your alarm.

when I get a chance , I will use a test light and see what comes out of the terminals.I will then post the reply.Strange how the thing is located there and yet when the alarm disarms, the relay clicking is under the dash (and it is not the hazzard light relay as the clicking for the hazzard lights is a different pitch). I will also disconnect the unit to see what happens.:)

Ok I disconnected it and the item is an alarm (and a pretty bad one at that!). I am now trying to trace the wires and still wonder how they managed to get the wiring from the front of the car to behind the seats as there is no obvious wirung running through the center console and there are a heap of wires. I did see the roof conversion photos but cannot work out how to get the rear tray out if the roof is in the way.
Anyway, while searching through the wiring, I did manage to install a Nokia Handsfree Blue Tooth and located the main unit behind the passenger seat trim as there is plenty of room back there.

Dude it's a tracker box. They usually put trackers in shit places. But generally somewhere near the feul pump.

Thanks. Can you tell me more about trackers? It sure is a strange "alarm" as it auto arms but does not trigger when the bonnet opens (there is a bonnet switch), does not trigger when the doors open or the boot opens?? Also, it does not prevent the car from starting .The only time it triggers is if the alarm is armed and the car is bumped or if the boot or doors are slammed (ie the car is bumped).
I would believe that it is a "tracker" because the antenna is enormous (about the size of a large rat with body as well as a tail)).

depending on the brand, these can be tricky to remove as a D.I.Y., probably best to get it removed by an alarm fitter. As some trackers have a FRY feature which when activated corrupts ECU and makes the vehicle not drivable. Not sure but this may activate if you start tampering with it. Like i said best left for a professional to remove.

jap do all S2's have one of them tracker things?

hope I did not tamper too much by disconnecting it and using a test light to see what was coming out of the plug? :o

Guess I will find out later... like tomorrow.

No. It's personal preference.

Make sure everything is connected as it was previously, if your car starts, all is good.

OH that experience scared the absolute crap out of me!!!!!!! I went to start the S2000 this morning and.........she fired up but then immediately spluttered and died. That is the first time this has EVER happened so I was worried. I go to restart and then the relays in the dash flicker wildly and I keep pressing the start button and then the whole display dies!!!
I jump into my Civic to drive to work.
I come home all worried and try it again. Exactly the same thing happens!! Yes exactly! The car starts, the car splutters and dies immediatley. I go to restart and the thing goes into relay clicking mode. WTF!!! Then the lights on the dash die and I am contemplating suicide.
I checked the battery voltage and it was 11.9Volts so I threw it on a charger for an hour to get it to about 12.8 (as I could not wait any longer).
I reconnected the battery and.....it fired up and then I heard the whirring noise that you hear when you first start up your S2000 in the mornings.Yes that noise that you always hear but take for granted. I assume that that is the noise of fuel pumping upon early start up. I now assume that the car battery had dropped to such a low power that it had enough oomph to start the car once but then not enough for the electrical fuel pump to run and so the engine starved and the battery was too weak to get the thing going the second time. Then after trying more and more to restart, the relays start clicking and eventually the whole dash blacks out.
I assume some elaborate CPU fouling system could have the same end results.
Anyway, happy again after changing my pants.:D:thumbsup:
