keys are about $50 plus programming , however if you dont have 1 exsisting black key and your red key it will cost you heaps to get a new genuine key from a Honda dealer.

what is your situation ?

it costs about 55 bucks to get the key. then u take it to a locksmith...costs about 30 bucks to get it cut...then take it back to honda (with ur red key) and they will program it (and i think reset ur immobilizer so it only works with the keys u have and not any that have been lost) for about 50-60 bucks i think... so about 150ish all up

red key is the master key that you use to copy the code to the unprogrammed black ones. you only need it if you want another key, but you cant get it from honda unless you buy a whole nother immobilizer

i had to replace my immob cause the previous owner lost the red key to my car, and i wanted to get another key, cause the old one was worn down.

dunno bout the new key, i actually got given the blank by the previous owner, but it cost me ~15 to get cut at a random locksmith (the dearlership i went to (oakleigh) didnt cut them there, not sure if others do), then ~90 for the immobilizer install only, programmed, and program of new key.

not sure how much the key programming is by itself.

call a dealership and find out. i'm sure they'll tell you.

blank keys from honda cost $50 plus the labour of programing, say another 100

ive had it done...and yeh as i said previously its about 120-150 bucks (55 for the key, about 40-50 for the programming plus about 20-30 to get the key cut at a locksmith cos honda do not cut keys). Alternatively you can go to a locksmith and they can sell u a key, cut it and program it for 50 bucks or less and itll be the same thing, but they cannot program honda keys for some reason. so if you aren't fussed about whether its a genuine honda part or not, get a key from a locksmith, or u can get replica blanks (with the honda logo, they look pretty close to the genuine part) from ebay and such which are possible to be programmed at a locksmith which is cheaper than honda.

with the red key they can cut a better replica, because it unused...ur black keys tend to wear out over time so if u make a copy it wont be as good...but yeh they can cut and program from ur black key if no red key is available

For my EG, because I didn't have any transponders or anything, I picked up two blank keys DealExtreme for $3 a pop, then got them cut at a local for $6.

Works a treat.

The key cutting guy also confirmed they came with a transponder. So if I needed to, he could have done it as well for much, MUCH cheaper than Honda's $300.

Thank me later.

Ive also been interested in this, Ive got a '96 coupe and I bought it with only 1 black key (no spare, no red key). Its been 2 years and i havent lost it, yet although ive been warned about forking out 100s of dollars to honda if its lost.

I went to a key cutting place and they scanned the key ( or whatever they do) and they said that they could make a duplicate transponder key for 80 bucks. Is this possible?

well the locksmith told you he could make the key, all he is doing is duplicating the current black key so of cource it will work.
