Hey guys just wondering how hard is it to do a DIY on replacing engine mounts i my teggy. Its a b18a1 I think.
I read a DIY but was on a dc5.. is it same procedure? eg :
1. Jack up engine by oil sump with wood/phone book for protection
2. loosen mount bolts
3. jack engine up more
4. remove mount
5. replace engine mount
6. tighten bolts and lower jack?
Thankssssssssss

1. Jack up engine by oil sump with wood/phone book for protection
..... Is definatly not NO!!! 1 If you do so, you'll put a nice dent in the sump as your lifting the whole car by the sump.
Jack the car up first and put it on stands and keep on stands.
The rear mount requires no jack support.
Undo all associated bolts.
Pull out old mount (this is the hardest mount to do as theres not much room to work in.
Put in new rear mount and bolt up.
Drivers side mount needs jack support. Take up the engine slack
Undo all associated bolts
Remove old mount.
Put in new mount an bolt up.
remove jack support.
Repeat for Passenger side.
I think it took me about 1hr to do the rear 15mins for drivers side and 15 mins for passenger side. The rear is just a pain in the ass to remove and to slip it out, you have to get the right angle on it to slide out. Pain in the A.

Thanks for clearing that up. I did find it confusing that someone would jack it up by the sump itself.. maybe I missed the sentence where it said put it on jack stands first :P
Im not sure which mount is broken yet mechanic just said one is broken will find out which tomorrow and do it myself as I dont have the cash for labour :(

Dean is on the money.
The rear mount is painful to change, however when I did mine I found it easier when i removed the 2-1 section of the header. Frees up alot of room.

Actually yeh. Theres an "A" braket that fixes mount to engine block. I think I un-did that too to get some more room to move.
To figure out which mount is broken grab a mate, get one to jump in the drivers seat and while handbrake is up press brakes and accelerate a bit. The other person should check for engine/mount movement,
Should be quite obvious. If it isn't then unless your doing some hectic racing, your mounts should do you fine for quite some more time.
