CRV 2003 Dodgy Speedo

My dad owns a 2003 CRV Sport and has had issues with the speedo for quite some time now. It will intermittantly display the wrong speed (ie 100kph when doing 60kph). He has had several trips to the dealer to try to rectify but they can't find seem to find a fault. Going for a whole new instrument cluster would be very expensive and without the problem diagnosed, there is no guarantee it would fix things.

Has anyone else ever run into similar issues?
