Hey guys,

Im new to the forum and new to my car... I recently bought a 1997 Civic VTiR and dont know much about the car apart from the sweet motor.

Im currently in the process of getting a 2 way FM alarm system and Im not sure what is good out there?? Iv looked at viper 5901, python 991 and hornet 564T. I was wondering if anyone can recommend me an FM alarm or any advise on any experiences with the above 3 that i have mentioned.

Cheers

I have heard great things about viper. I've had the viper 5002 and it was awsome it can turn on the car while your ouside it, turn it off, wind all the windows down when ur outside the car, heaps of awsome functions + protection 2 how you like it.

Im assuming the viper 5901 would only be more AWSOME. Gl deciding but im sure someone more people have used python and hornett

viper and python im pretty sure are made by the same ppl.
again, its best to search... ive said it, and many other ppl have said it..
any alarm is as good as its install mate.. so to say.

i have a mongoose alarm, insurance approved, and im quite happy with it.
just do a bit of research, and decide what you want.

so really, its entirely up to you what you get, just choose wisely who installs it.

hey guys,

I will be doing the install myself.

I have looked around and did a bit of research and thats the 3 products that I have read good reviews on. so im 50% there ;)

The other thing is wiring diagrams for the civic. where would i be able to get a hold of that?

cheers

hi,

Iv only done one alarm to tell u the truth and that was for my old car. it was a pretty simple job as it was onli a one way alarm with immobilizer.

Im willing to give this one a try though.

you should consider clifford alarm as well. same manufacturer as viper but it is a little bit cheaper and the high end models have the same exact features as viper. www.clifford.com

I have used them before and they are good.

You may need to check your insurance policy, most insurers will NOT recognise the alarm (approved or not documentation wise) unless it is intalled by an approved installer, with receipts to verify such.

Throw in the fact that a good installer will give you a lifetime warranty and it is well worth the few extra dollars they'll charge for the install.

Correct me if I'm wrong but Viper alarms don't come with black wiring, which is required to be compliant with your insurance.

If insurance is not an issue for you (ie not insured) then just go all out! :D

yes viper does not come with black wiring but insurance is not a problem for me. Hence the models i suggested.

Another question that i would like to know is - Do I need a transponda if i buy remote start? Im not 100% but are the 1997 VTiR Civics key chipped??

cheers

Hey Mate,

Try the Autowatch 446RLi or something like that. I had one in my old s15 it was sweet as. Has heaps of options and is insurance approved, comes with a certificate to cover your own ass with insurance too lol. If you're after window wind features and all that it comes with those aswell with 3 point iimmobilizer and turbo timer if you ever decide to turbo it lol

but yeah anyways its Highly rated and wires are also black! comes with tech support too! If you want i have a number of a dude who can install it/provide it/guide you to install it whatever you want! (not dodgey, actual supplier lol) goodluck!

Get the mongoose M series alarms.. M60 or M80 or M80s

Cant go wrong :

- Full black wiring
- Insurance approved no questions asked
- 2 way immobiliser
- Back-up battery siren so if theives disconnect battery car will still go off until alarm is turned off with special key
- bright blue LED warning light to scare off thieves
- shock sensor
- central locking, boot release bla bla bla etc etc
- add pretty much anything you can imagine to the alarm kit (sms to say your alarm is going off lol)

Just got one fitted to my LS.. 350 installed for the M80S (best model) by a proffessional auto electrician in the trade..

PM me if you want me to find him for you!
