hey guys in regards to Shift Pattern on the gear knob, is it illegal to not have them in your car, let's say i use an after market gear knob and it doesn't have it, do we need to have them?

Also what's the difference or preference between Cusco and Hypertec strut brace?

yes its a defect if you dont have the shift pattern. if you have a after market gearknob u can just buy the shift pattern sticker and stick it near the gearknob center console

I think it depends where you are and who "busts" you. I have an ARC knob and got the Mugen "Don't shift miss" badge because I thought it was defectable (as I have read many times) but upon emailng vicroads they have told me it is not.

But it's still best to put something up just because even if they Vicroads say it's not, the Police will probably still do it.

its for incase of emergencies the country cops told me, so that they or someone can move ur car, ie. the old datsuns with the reverse up instead of down, lol

all u need in ur car is a paper with the shift pattern on it legally in all states, the law states it has to be visible (not on the knob but in that area ie. 200sx's s15 gear knob surround

and Id go cusco or a custom one :)

It's only illegal if it's not a Spoon titanium knob

I have already purchased a sticker from the states, so it should be fine. I did however see a cusco strut selling for $220 on eBay, I wonder if that is the legit one since everyone else is selling it for around $300

or you print out a pattern from online, then tape it on, would still look nice

Yeah, just make one up in MS powerpoint, print it out, laminate it and it will look very good. Stick it with some good doublesided tape on the trim next to the gearstick in full view of the driver so that when you look down at the knob, you instantly see the shift pattern next to it. That's what I have.

Alternatively, print it on an adhesive label and stick it straight on, cheaper than laminating and looks better too since it will follow the shape of the trim.

Until you get a cop who is out to give you trouble, they can say that it is insufficient. LOL
