Getting a set of either 16X7 or 15X6.5 with 40 offset to fit into an EG
I just wondering what is the best tyre size and is wide enough to protect the lip of thee wheel

205/45/16 for the 16in wheel, and 205/50/15 for the 15in wheel. With +40 you shouldn't have any clearance issues with those sizes. Perhaps a mild roll of the rear guards if anything.

205 sits with a straight/flat sidewall on a 7in wide wheel. For even better lip protection, get a tire with a rim protector. There are many tires out there that offer this feature.

However, you shouldn't need to protect the lip of the wheel, just park properly and you will be fine.

If I wanted a bit of stretch on a 16x7, what would you suggest?

Noob question here, so on a 225/45/r17 does the 45 refer to the profile of the tyre? Ie; the how tall the wall is.
