I'm on the verge of buying a certain model of Civic, it'll most likely be an: 1999 HONDA CIVIC EK CXI (Auto) Is this an EK9 model? (Going by the year, EK 1999 .. EK9)
Couple more modification questions
- What exhaust would you recommend if I wanted something not LOUD but better sounding than stock :) Also if it could increase performance by any means although I know its an auto, I may be willing to shell out the extra $$ for something.
- If I buy things from USA, what do they call this model of Civic over there? (So far I've only planned on buying a front grill to replace where the stock H is etc)
- What offset are the stock wheels on a '99 EK CXI?
Thanks a heap :D

That would be a EK1? and Face Lifted (A EK Guru please correct me if I'm misinforming OP)
If you want something louder then stock then....mmm, its auto....
Ok, get something made at the exhaust shop.
Ummm, yeah, they're Honda Civic's there, EK serial will do nicely for you.
Stock wheel offset is weak.
If you're looking at aftermarket anything from 45(?) through to 35 would fit fine without serious issues.
Welcome to Ozhonda btw.

Thanks :D I'm upgrading from a 350z to a 99 Civic anyday now - I'm remaining positive due to the restrictions for P platers in NSW lol .. 350z's are restricted and I didn't know until about a week ago :( but yeah after researching/trying to learn about modding my 350 I have to switch over to modding a Civic where things are different (different products/offsets etc anyway)
What would be the main difference between a 45 offset and a 35 offset? I remember with the 350z I was told a +20 offset would = fairly flush with the body etc, thanks for the reply!

I'll be honest.
A Manual makes the world of difference.
Then a EK4 would be the next choice :p
I know of one in QLD that needs a bit of work (to make mint again) but its worth the coin :p
There are alot more powerful cars that are p-plate legal...right?
35 offset for example would be a more tough fitment and be more-so flush with the body.

Going from a 350z to an auto EK CXi is going to be torture!
At the very least aim for a manual GLi, but with the money from selling a 350z I would be looking at an EM1 (EK coupe) or an EK4 VTi-R Hatch.
You will probably grow tired of the auto very quickly!

I only had it for a couple of weeks to be honest, my 350z is an auto too - I like to relax when I drive and manual just annoyed me (went from a road bike to a 350z) but buying a Civic because I think they're pretty nice little cars which is what I want until I'm off of my P's atleast, don't just want to shell out a heap of $$ again to be honest, the Civic I was looking at was around $10k which leaves me some $$ to modify it a bit, and the rest to put back into a savings account for later lol :)
Not really aiming for power but I don't want to drive a 'slug' - that being said I've only admired the 99 Civic's looks, haven't driven it yet so we'll see, would still like a nice 'purr' under it though. But yeah purely use it to drive to class/work etc not track or anything :)

There's a big difference between a torquey 3.5 auto and a torqueless 1.6 litre.
If you get a VTi-R or EM1, there's hardly anything you need to modify. If you buy a CXi you're going to spend a whole lot more to get it even up to the spec of the EK4/EM1s. EM1s are more expensive due to their limited availability but you should be able to find an EK4 hatch in good condition for around the 10K mark.
Here's an EM1 Link (http://www.carsales.com.au/all-cars/private/details.aspx?R=7020912&__Qpb=true&Cr=6&__Ns=pCar_RankSort_Int32%7c1%7c%7cpCar_Price_Decim al%7c1%7c%7cpCar_Make_String%7c0%7c%7cpCar_Model_S tring%7c0&__N=1216%201247%201282%201252%204294965322%2042949 65250%204294922435%20898&silo=1011&seot=1&__Nne=15&trecs=13&__sid=1202E70F8D20)

I'm not planning to modify the engine though guys, my civic is just going to be a runaround - if I do anything it'll be for looks/sound to adjust to my taste, eg; an exhaust and new speakers/stereo head etc .. the one I'm hopefully going to get already has a small kit on it (not too ricey, more so just lips all around which is what I like)
When I'm off my P's thats when I'll bother putting some $$ into something with power :)

Which is exactly why I suggest the VTi-R.
Spending 10k on a NonVTEC SOHC D16 seems silly to me when you could have a VTEC DOHC B16 for just a little more.

Would you need to re sit a test for manual?
The way I see it, a manual VTi-R would be on the whole more enjoyable and would hold it's value better than a Auto CXi.
But the CXi will be a reliable P plate car, so I guess it serves your needs.
I've said just about all I can so I'll just leave you to it.

I'm not 100% sure but my personal preference is auto, thanks for your input though :D
Is anyone able to give me an idea on the offset of this type of wheel?

I'm no expert but it could be around +35
if you look up rota rims you can probably find out.
EDIT, from what I can see most Rotas are +40.

Thats A big 10-4 on that.
Its 35+ (providing they're Rotas, which it looks like it)

Thanks :D Would there be any benefits in getting a +35 offset compared to +40/45?

I just bought a 98 EK1 GLi hatchback (manual) for way lesser than $10k, so I hope that you've done some looking around before buying that one. Though mine is stock, with probably no mods, I would still have quite a fair bit left over to mod it with a kit if I wanted.. But i'm only here for a while, so wont be modding it anyways.

Yeah still going to shop around :)
What mods would you say are on this? Is it a specific body kit or just front/rear/side lips?

what does it say in the listing?
just a lip on front, aftermarket side skirts and looks like a lip on the rear.
I haven't seen those alloys before, they could be OEM though.

"Bodykit lips" is all :P How much would a set cost you think?
Trying to work out whether its cheaper to buy it already modded or to mod a stock one myself

lol I see you went with my suggestion, I now suggest you to test drive one before you buy it. You want an auto but seriously the CXi is er well gutless, test drive the auto CXi and an auto Gli or VTi.
And the lips aren't terrible expensive, I imagine you have a lot of cash from the selling the Z, a front replica lip costs about $120-$180 unpainted.

What about the rear/sides? How much am I looking at all up?
I'm probably not going to mod it too much so trying to keep costs down either way :)
(Also where would I buy these? Ebay US?) Paint can be fairly pricey from what I've noticed, plus the addition of having them put it on too. Plus tint (~$150) so yeah main concern is paint/attachment costs - and rims but no rush for those. Will look into the GLi/VTi models too :) Found a GLi (Or GXi) can't remember but it was 100% stock and only 49000KM (2000 model) but still going for $11,990 lol .. good thing is they service the cars before you take it home.

Have a look through the traders forum on here.
You'll find plenty of places to get the lip kits.
If you buy genuine they are usually easier to fit, hint hint *DIY*.

is this from a dealer ? Yea but drive them before buying, and please do not put an exhaust on a CXi it's not a good idea, modding a CXi is a bad idea full stop, no offense CXi owners on here, but seriously it is. From memory CXi doesn't even have a tacho ?

Since it's auto, you're not after power but are looking a nicer note I'd recommend a twinloop muffler.
