Hey all,
I have just noticed recently HR-V 4wd in the market... i know they been out for a few years and dont make them anymore but was wondering why they are so cheap..

Like a 99 sports model has mags, sunroof, air cond, spoiler ect... and i have found it in the papers for $14 - 16,000...

I dont mind the shape and believe that they are quite good value but still in doubt as to why they are sooo cheap (even from the dealers)... The only suggestion I have is that its mainly due to the motor being so small in quite a big car (1.6lt, 1300kg???)...

Does anyone have or been in one that could shed some light on this topic... This would be much appreciated...

if you still wanted to modify this car, you can...
the aftermarket parts in japan for this car is phenominal...
have a friend with high cams in his HRV, it can beat a dc2r around a certain track....i've seen it with my own two eyes...

Are you for real ???
out of the D16z and CVT gearbox ?

damn, bro tell me more. My mum has one and we're always looking at ways to speed it up.

I suspect it is cheap because it is no longer made (and only made for a few years), and hence it could be harder to get parts etc for it from honda??

I dont mind the hrv, make a good car for a nice audio setup.

Looks ok, I've seen a very quick one around Ryde way, I'm guessing its had an upgrade.

I've heard they are actually a GM car with honda badges - can anyone confirm/deny?

My Mum has a two-door (the 4 dor looks shyt) - they are a fun beast to drive, if you think that's cheap there are two good HRV's in The Melbourne Trading pOst this week for $9500 - yes that's right $9500 each. I you want to buy one these are the cheapest by far that i have ever seen.

I will deny that :)

The HRV is built on the Civic platform like the CRV is. Therefore it cannot be a GM car.

My cousin bought one back in 99. They are a nice car and good value at those prices. The only thing that bugged me was the lack of a drivers foot rest

yeah dude we got one as a work car and they ride great but they are fairly gutless little things if you put a sick motor in it they would fly

wat's the engine code for the HRVs anyways?? B, K??

Jus-10
16-06-2004, 08:29 AM
It uses a D16

Specs are 77kw@6200rpm, 138Nm, 0-100 in 11.1secs, weight = 1162kg

Seems like it could have some potential with some more power. I think it would be a great car.

I ve got a HRV .. great car for cruising.. and to put a nice system in.. but it's got hardly any guts at all.

Just drove one today and did a full stereo audio install in it :)

Feels just like my civic to drive......very easy, comfortable and smooth gearbox, however as said........due to the excess weight and lack of power, it fails to get off the mark!

But at around 5,800 rpm...the engine starts sounding a bit like the might D16A8 :)

Love to know if a B series motor would -

A. Fit in the engine bay without hassles?

B. Be able to remain 4WD?

C. Require any driveshaft/diff/other mods to work?

If someone really knows their stuff and could clear this up for us all I'd be grateful...

Just imagine a 1200kg 4WD ("low") 130KW sleeper with wheels and a 'zorst!

Mmmmmm..... Stealth!

and if it's possible the sums would be -

car $9000 (auction)
engine conversion $4000
parts $2000

TOTAL = only $15000
for a car that would munch WRX's off the line and
sound like a British touring car!

Dreams??? Someone tell me how possible it is!

Just Buy a CRV and change the head of that..you're better off.

HRV runs a d-series so you will have to change gearbox, driveshafts, ECU, wiring harness etc.

You could always go turbo and VTEC head + ECU, cause I'm assuming you wouldn't be able to get a gearbox to suit if you did a swap

what EK could satisfy the needs of someone after a practical 4WD load carrying machine, with a sub 15 sec quarter? Not even a Vti-R! Nothing on the Oz market at the moment actually!

The hrv around Ryde way if it was blue/purple indy its a mates and he traded it recently he had extractors , chip(intake) , big exhaust thats about it but he goes very hard .

i have his chip on my hrv now and just got a high flow air filter , huge difference , it was a big enough difference with a new free flowing filter but the chip is very nice response

Wheels Magazine did a review of the HR-V back in like 2000.

Something along the lines of
Ride 5 Stars
Comfort 5 Stars
Handling 5 Stars
Power 1 Star
lool

I brought my HR-V along on one of the Melbourne cruises, was awesome fun. SOHC VTAK Y0

Show me a 15 second HRV with full interior and the D series without a turbo.

It's not even a real 4WD. It's that realtime shit.

Never claimed mine was. Mine is just a FWD family sedan.

LOL at all those claiming the HRV is a true 4WD. I want to see them try to bring it into a little unsealed muddy road. The CRV would eat it for breakfast and a Forester (any forester, GT preferred) would fly past both of them, spraying mud in their faces.

Being labeled a 4WD isn't going to do much when the HRV was delivered with road tyres.

nah its not a true 4wd... never was.

this on the other hand, is a true 4wd.

Lolz. I remember seeing a pic of a Challenger with the sticker, "Landcruiser and Prado bogged rescuer" on the rear windshield.

True that the HRV was never a real 4WD but for some reason redbook advertise it as one:

Wagon 5dr CVT 1sp 4x4 1.6i

aaronng
31-10-2006, 01:54 PM
Back then, anything that gave power to the rear wheels, even temporarily, was labeled a 4x4. Now we have 4x4 (50-50 split, symmetric AWD) and AWD (variable split).

I have a HR-V, 99 model, It has a CVT auto Transmission which has been replaced because they are prone to be un-reliable, as many others can tell you.
$1000 to $5000 to replace this!
So get the manual version to save hassle & get more power & control & They are cheaper!

The car is underpowered for its all round size ( weight / tyres / height ) 1.6 litre civic engine Single overhead cam only.

If you turn a corner fast, the car will slide like a front wheel drive, but if you keep accelerating & turning the rear wheels will start to work & the car comes out of its death slide, but in the wet this does not work well & you will keep sliding.

Yes, it has all the great features & I have seen them from $10, 000, I paid $11K with 100kms

lol since this thread is back up can't see the harm in contributing :p does anyone get the shits when you turn the ignition and the HRV tries to deafing you with the pre warning beeps (? made that up can't think of the proper name) it's like full on BEEP BEEP BEEP!!!!!!

taps
03-05-2007, 10:51 PM
Find where the speaker for the BEEP is ( its in the front dash on right side ) try to locate cable & detatch from the speaker itself.

Problem solved!

I agree the beep is horrible & loud. But not as bad as the accelaration of the HRV! The HRV has low body roll on corners & it fly's over speed bumps, if only Australia got the 3 door model with Vtec standard? would be a great fun car.

man.

i wish i had the balls and the funds to do a K series 4wd airbag job to it.

Recently bought a HRV (Last week infact) and am reasonably happy with it. Little 2 door silver one, manual. As already mentioned it is a little under powered (not that I want to go racing it, I have a HSV for that!) but I wouldn't mind getting a litte more poke in it.

Can anyone suggest some small mods that can be done to it, just to give it more oomph!

Cheers.

yourfather
10-05-2007, 10:10 AM
you can turbocharge it

I don't particularly want to go to that expense. I am thinking more intake and exhaust mods, maybe a tune etc. :D

not really any way to make it faster

Brand of tyres will have a lot to do with it. I use Falken ZE329 215/60-16s. Recently it has been drenching wet here in Sydney and have no problem turning around corners with speed that would be considered a little fast in the dry.

It's worth to pay a little extra for good set of tyres.

HRV CONSIDERED PRETTY FUTURISTIC WHEN IT FIRST CAME OUT.
NO CARS HAD THAT SHAPE :p

the point I am making is that regardless of what you like / dislike, there are others that enjoy the opposite. That's why some people love living in the country, and others enjoy living in massive apartment buildings (filing cabinets) in the city.
