View Full Version : Help! Car Audio system
I have a honda jazz 05. Using factory CD player, and installed 4 speaker and amp at a place where i normally service. They did a very shitty job with the installation.
1, with my amp what does 4/2 channel mean?
2, four speakers already installed in the car with the amp 1st and 2nd channel and each channel has 150W I think. 3 and 4 channel is left for the subwoofer is this normal?
3 should the new subwoofer put to chanel 3 and 4 or.......
4 Channel 3 has 150W and 4 has 150W these two channel are for subwoofer. how big subwoofer can i get and can I get a big one instead of two small one? Because there 're 2 channel!
If i get a 300W subwoofer in channel 3 it would blow the amp. cos channel 3 only has 150W and i am putting a 300W subwoofer under it?
Can i put one big subwoofer in to that 3 and 4 channel and use up all 300W.
5 I want to add a subwoofer to my car what subwoofer is suitable for this amp?
Thx alot...

1) with my amp what does 4/2 channel mean?
means your amp can either be wired up as a 4channel or 2channel(bridged). 4 channel means you can run 4 speakers off it. 2channel (bridged) means channels 1&2 will be made into just 1channel, and channels 3&4 with made made into 1channel.
2) four speakers already installed in the car with the amp 1st and 2nd channel and each channel has 150W I think.
dont really know what your tryin to ask here. but thats must be a pretty massive amp for 150WRMS for each channel.
3 and 4 channel is left for the subwoofer is this normal?
if you have all 4 of your speakers runnin off your amp, it would have cables occupying all 4 channels in your amp. you can then bridge in a sub with channels 1&2.
sounds to me you are very lost when it comes to car audio, where are you located?

as far as i know, 4/2 channels amp means that your amp can be used for 4 channel or bridged into 2 channel which will produce more power.
it is normal if the installer put the channel 3 n 4 for your sub or 1 n 2 for your front speaker, bcoz for the front speaker itself, u need 2 channel from the amp (1 left n 1 right). If u want a subwoofer on your car, then i would advice you not to connect your rear speaker into the amp and use the channel 3 n 4 for the subwoofer..
hope this will help u..

Thank you very much for your reply.
In the frist place i brought 2 pairs of JL speaker. Then i went to do my service and I asked the guy if he know anything about car audio. He siad YES! I told him I had 2 pairs of speaker and ask if he can rememcommed me a few amp. He told me his got one and it a very good. He got it for 1000k pass few years ago and his selling for 150. He siad he can help me install it and this amp is good for my speakers. I told him i want to add a subwoofer later on and he siad this amp would do the work.
Cos i know so little about car audio and i not sure if he is telling the ture.
1. At the monment Channel 1 and 2 is connected to 4 speaker and he siad 3 and 4 channel it for subwoofer. Is that ture? How many Watt is the 1 and 2 channel. If my amp total is 600Watts. Does that mean 1 and 2 channel are using 300watts and 3 and 4 channel is 300watts?
2 Does that mean i can get a 300watts subwoofer?
I at Melbourne.

Just wanna say one more thing....
Front speaker is installed to channel 1 and rear speaker is installed in channel two.
3 and 4 channel is left out for the subwoofer.
it this normal?

well he stuffed u there, to power a speaker you must use 1channel from your amp. dosnt matter which one. 1channel consists of 1Active(red) and 1Neutral/Ground(black).
are all your channels being used, do they have speaker cables coming out of them?
the specs that u give of the amp above, each channel will be pumping out 100W at 4ohms (resistance of speakers). or if you u bridge the amp, it will pump out 300W for each of the 2 channels.
would also be better if you could take a picture of the side of your amp.

ic.. so your system is not running stereo then..
you can do that way as well, but the sound will not be the best for your amp and speakers..
btw, if u wanna better quality for your system, i would suggest u to use your 4 channel for your front and rear and get another 2 channel amp or monoblock amp for your sub..

1, with my amp what does 4/2 channel mean?
that means it can run as a 2 channel amp or a 4 channel amp. its known as bridging, where you use 2 channels to drive one speaker, and it gives you more power
2, four speakers already installed in the car with the amp 1st and 2nd channel and each channel has 150W I think. 3 and 4 channel is left for the subwoofer is this normal?
its not how i wouldhave done it, i would want stereo, buut...theres no reason it cant work
3 should the new subwoofer put to chanel 3 and 4 or.......
4 Channel 3 has 150W and 4 has 150W these two channel are for subwoofer. how big subwoofer can i get and can I get a big one instead of two small one? Because there 're 2 channel!
you can probably bridge channel 3 and 4 to drive one big subwoofer, or you can get 2, its up to you, and depends on the amp. by the sounds of it though, you'll be able to. for the wiring, look at the speaker terminals, and it'll have 2 "+" and 2 "-" and then some indication of a bridging wiring.
If i get a 300W subwoofer in channel 3 it would blow the amp. cos channel 3 only has 150W and i am putting a 300W subwoofer under it?
Can i put one big subwoofer in to that 3 and 4 channel and use up all 300W.
no, the power rating of the subwoofer only indicates the capacity of it. if you get a 300W subwoofer, you can push up to 300W in it before it gets to its limit and is likely to blow. if you have a 300W subwoofer being driven by a 150W amp, all it means is that the sub wont be driven to its max. you wont blow the amp at all.
if those specs are right, and its 100x4/300x2, it would be perfectly fine bridging channel 3 and 4 to get 300W for the sub. and you probably wont blow anything, weather your doing the one channel, or the 2 channel bridged approach.
the only way your gonna blow something is if you use a sub with an impedence too low for the amp, (which would be given on the specs, 2ohm for this amp) or if you crank the amp to push more power through the sub then it can take, but i dont think your gonna have that problem with that amp and a 300W sub

In this case the subs would connect to the output right?
The input has 4 speaker stalled to it, front and rear.
What subs can i get?
What do you think of my amp?
It a second hand he sold for $150 to me.
Thank you very much.

oic. IC what you mean. In the frist place i was ganna get a $300 to $400headunit, but i fine out with the 05 year jazz also need to get a dashkit , cos they are different then also need to pay for install free. it cost like $200 I reckon it a bit much for me so i didn't end up getting it.
Have you installed a headunit?
If you don't mine!
how much did it cost your all up?
unit head, dashkit, install free
if it in my price range i would mine getting one.
Where did u get your done?
Was it good?
Thx.

it looks to me like your missing out on the right channel for channels 1 and 2, hmmm.
other then that, it looks ok.
to run a sub off that, i would move the speakers connected to channels 3+4, and run them side by side with the other speakers off channels 1+2, that would leave you to bridge the sub off channels 3 and 4. but idealy you would want a dedicated sub amp.
i'm not too sure on specific models, i have a second hand clairon sub and amp. but its usually not too expensive to get a sub to add that extra body to the sound, without it having the chapel doof doof.

I think my 2 speakers going into 1 Channel. I suspect what they've done is take the 4 speaker channels from your HeadUnit, run them through a line level converter and used them as the Aux inputs on your Amp. do you think so?
Do you know why they connect the top two speaker to L+, L- and not like the 2 speaker at the bottom L+, L-, R+, R-.
did they left the top two spot R+,R- for the subwoofer which i m going to get.

i have no idea why they would connect the two speakers to just the left channel, maybe cause they lost the screw for the right one?? looks like your missing one there.
you wouuldnt wanna just run the sub off the one channel, you'd want the signal for both channels going into it, which is why sub amps always have both left and right, no matter how many subs are connected or where theyre placed. (its really cause bass is omnidirectional, so you dont need more then one sub for a stereo setup.)
btw, are you running aftermarket headunit?

you can connect you speakers in the 3-4 channel aslong you switch the switch to the HP which is Highpass filter, which means normal signal will be sent to the speakers. LP which is low pass filter is for sub woofer its design to filter bass only to produce bass for the sub, if you do have a sub if u observe if you have the high pass switch in the sub channel you will hear voices in the sub but if you hav it in low pass filter you will have bass only.
if you using 1 sub only i recommend you to bridge the connection to so you will end up a 3 channel connection and if you have 2 subs just use the left for 1 and right for the other 1,
at the moment on my amp my left rear channel is not working so my 2 subs is connected in my rear channel and still booming, thats in the low pass by the way

low pass actually if his running subs only from the rear channel to get the bass. But yea if your using speakers at the moment use the full or high pass mode.
If you test it out if you put the speakers in high pass mode you wont get much bass at all its all voice and the tweeterry sound...
After you got everything setup with your sub you got the channel on highpass just doin all the voice and tweetery and ur sub will do all the bass and the result nice beautiful sound.. then after that just adjust the gain switch to suit how much power u wanna power the speakers/sub from ur amp

oic nice. That was what i was thinking but i went down to the audio shop yesterday they told me that i cant put 2 speaker (1 pair) into one channel. If I want to add a sub into this amp i have to get another amp. He siad no one will put two speaker(1pair) into one channel at all. A channel per speaker this is what 4 channel are for!!!!!!
****So now i need to put the front 2 speaker into channel 3 and rear pair speaker into channel 4 then put my 1 sub which i m going to get in my 1 and 2 channel!
***Can i put my front 2 speaker into channel 3&4 and rear pair speaker put into channel 3 and channel 4 for the 1 sub.
**Cos my AMP is 4x100Watts per channel.
Front pair speakers using channel 3&4 total watts used 200Watts
Rear pair speaker putting it into 1 channel only total watts used 100watts
So that mean I still have 1 more channel left and 100watts left as long as i get a 150watts subwoofer into that channel it should be fine?
Do you think so?
*Can I make 1&2 channel into one channel?
Cos i saw Output can change to 3 channel?
Why did they put my speaker into input and not output?
Thank you!

Its all gud man thats wat we do here in ozhonda we ask for the stuff we dnt really know and get answers.. The guys in the shop trying to sell u another amp to add to his sales rep to his manager.. and get comissions.. his sales talking you bcoz u dnt know much about these stuff..
Yea you can run 2 speakers from 1 channel but dont expect to get the quality of having 1 speaker in 1 channel bcoz the power will be divided in two. But it does the job to me so I am just telling you what i experience but i cannot promise u that it will turn out the same at your end.
your amp is fine and gud enough to power the setup that urplanning to have in ur ride .just need adjustment to reach ur satisfaction. Dont buy the sales touge of the guy telling you to buy another amp.. how much will it cost you $100+ not worth it man..;)

most of the ones in ebay has the feature that I have but more than that like bluetooth for phone and inbuilt GPS, So its all up to u what you looking for.
Are you looking for feature or brand?
Because i was looking for features like sd reader, aux etc wat i listed you can get a like my one or better or if ur looking for brand like alpine pioneer etc,, that gud too,

is that the actual photo with the box? A ported JL sub in the jazz boot. that loud enough duff duff enough to shake your jazz.. ported will give you more bass and more boom but less punch. JL are good subs, How much is it? Have you shop around and compare prices?
You should check the Alpine type R range of subs? for me there the best but cnt afford it So i have Pioneer subs and a DUB

Thank you!
the one reason people advise not to run 2 speakers from the one channel is that you might overload the amp from the impedence being too low, but since your speakers are 4 ohm, and the amp is capable of 2ohm, you'll have no problem.
its only a worry too if you really crank the amp past its rated power. i use multiple speakers through the one channel with my hifi setups at home all the time.
how i would connect it up is channel 3=front and rear left, channel 4=front and rear right, channel 1+2 bridged for sub. that gives you enough power to run the subs, and speakers. be carefull though, if you bridge channel 1+2 you'll get 300W through your sub, which is good for a 150W sub, but if you turn it up too much, you risk blowing the sub.

What does ohm mean? My speaker it got 4ohm and my AMP got 2ohm???
What if I connect channel 3=front and rear left, channel 4=front and rear right, channel 1+2 bridged for sub. Does it work for me? How do I calculate my amp and speaker? Can you help me out here? The sub would be a JL Audio 15inchW4 200watts
At the moment my channel connected:
Channel 3&4: Front left & front right. Reason of putting this two in 1 channel each is cos speaker running 60-100Watts
Channel 1 : rear left & right, Reason of putting this two in 1 channel is cos speaker running 50-75Watts.
Channel 2 is emuty now is left for a JL Audio 15inchW4 200watts sub.
Which do you think I should use?
1. 2 channel with 4 speaker and 1 channel for a sub. Total 3 channels.
2. front pair speaker use 2 channels, rear pair speaker use 1 channel and subs use 1 channel. Total 4 channels
Cheers

ohm is a unit of impedence, its used to match speakers to amps. if you connect 2 speakers to one channel you half the impedence of that channel. so if you use 2 4ohm speakers in the one channel, you get 2ohms, and since your amp is capable of 2 ohms, it should be fine.
here's the manual for the sub, do you know if its a dual 2ohm, or dual 4ohm? because that changes how you set it up...http://mobile.jlaudio.com/pdfs/15W4_BDS.pdf
i personally would do this:
1. 2 channel with 4 speaker and 1 channel for a sub. Total 3 channels.
because you could do with the extra power for the sub, bass notes take more power to produce the same volume compared to mids or trebles. iirc every octave you go down requires twice the power to produce the same volume. thats why you always hear of massive power in subs, but never tweeters.

I don't know if it a dual 2ohm, or dual 4ohm? I haven't get this subs off this person yet. Still thinking of getting or not. He sell for $80
What would be the different way of setting up a dual 2ohm, or dual 4ohm?
Cheers.

ask the guy if its dual-4 or dual-2, he should know. it does change it, its all in the manual i posted.
but if all else fails you can test it with a multimeter.

any electronic shops, dick smith, jaycar etc..
but to save you buying one, the guy your buying it off should be able to tell you, or it'll be written on the magnet on the back of the speaker

you can use the current power and ground cable of the current amp to power the new amp.. by using a distribution block. Its like a splitter thing so that you can power the 2 amps at once.. And extend the remote cable from current amp to the new amp..
negative side of this.. batter could gone flat easy. you might need to get a capacitor or get an alternator upgrade to give enough power for the whole lot.
gud luck
