Brake Pads - whatz good and whatz not

Hi All,

just a quick question: what brand brake pads should I buy for my brakepad swap?

My rears are wearing very thin, and I think while im doing the back I might do the front as well - but what should I get.

You get the Bendix at supercheap or any other place, but is there better brands out there for respectable cost. I don't need Racing Pads, im after good street/racing pads. Something thats good for normal everyday use but is also good for when I do my motorkhanas... so something not wearing as quick.

Any advise would be appreciated

Endless are pretty good. I personally wouldn't go with Bendix they only last about 10% longer than normal pads.

I got the Razztech pads for me EG..just the fronts...but they bite like a pitbull terrier...and possibly a little extra dust, but nothing like a race pad puts out..good old pornstar hooked me up with them, and I may just harrass him soon for some rear pads too...

i got bendix ultimate something on my car, cot me heaps!
they suck for like soft braking around town and shit but when i need to stop in a hurry they are very good :) no dust as well

EBC are good. i got green stuff and they bite very well. good street pad. if you doing some light track stuff then EBC reds would be the go. the greens are a high friction pad so will heat up too much on track days

Try and stay away from DBA pads. They are very average even for street use.

Be warned...most aftermarket pads are not designed with longevity in midn with STOCK rotors ( discs) ...under mid to extreme braking - extended heatign up and cooling down etc of aftermarket pads can warp or crack your stock discs !

Personally , I would not go anything other than OEM for OEM discs. I currently run Bendix metal kings for the front and OEM for the rear - metal based pads such as mine are known to grip nicer once warmed up - but can warp your discs with prolonged use.

ok - back again...

its been recommended I run normal type pads in the back, since the back is doing minimal braking, so bendix or something like that!

I also got a price for some endless NA-Y pads for the front at a cost of $255

I am using Bendix Metal King up the front and NISSIN OEM Honda pads on the rear. Cost me only $100 for Metal King so is not a bad buy, is much better then the stock and I can brake well in heated conditions :D

I've tried endless pads and they are pretty good. If you are just doing it for street,..NA-Y is good enough. But if it's for track, it's marginal. As for the bendix, really don't bother, I overheated a set until it turned white. It's good for your normal daily driving, but if anything more, I wouldn't recommend it. Just remember, it's your life when it's about braking, you can have 400hp with shit brakes and it's like getting into a car with a deathwish. Right now, I am running Winmax 0-650 up front and Endless NA-Y at the rear. Winmax is pretty good, stops well even with repeated heavy braking.

yeah - OEM are about $150.

technically your fronts are doing abut 70% of your breaking, therefore rears aren't as used - I think rears as Drums aren't too bad - you just need good shoes...

CYRUS: Na-Ys are said to be street and agressive - so I guess an occasional Motorkhana day shouldnt be too bad....???

how many ppl with aftermarket brakes notice that they're very noisy?

i've got bendix advance on the front, and they are fukn loud, and make a harsh scraping noise as well as squeel.

the noise only started happening after i thrashed the shit out of them on a round of mc motorsport (like a short course motorkhana)

Omar - are u talking about after market Disks or pads? if they are considered to be 'cheaper' then i wouldn't be surprised that you warped your disks, but i think the squeeling comes from massive heat burning your pads, and i glazing the disk. It should pass on its own after a while, or maybe get them checked and skim the disks?

bendix pads were $100
so yeh, cheaper than the OEM stuff, but i must say that they are definately better pads in terms of braking ability (especially when slowing down from 180km/h)

rotors don't feel to bad in terms of being warped, their still 99% flat. but it might still be an idea for me to get them machined

the dudes at honda told me last time i got my car serviced, that most aftermarket pads are quite noisy when used on OEM rotors. can anyone else confirm this?

Bro - the dudes at honda will always tell you what they want you to hear! they will always say OEM pads are best for honda cars... but they are also intended for normal grandpa street driving. Not the type of driving we do.

I think that happens when you get too much heat into your pads, they basically glaze the disks and make noises... but have it checked out...

EBC Greens are my choice. Haven't had any problems with rotor wear as suggested by others. Can get them at a good price too :)

For odd motorkana... SSS is enough for low speed events... but for high speed events NA-R are better, however now you can get the new EURO X compound thats cheaper and slightly better than the NAR (new EURO X stock arriving soon)
