Hey guys,

Im in the process of buying some coilovers for my EK4 and have done a bit of research on a few brands eg skunk2, tein SS, Buddy Club N+. Ive decided that im gonna go for the Tein SS.

I was just wondering what experience have you had with Tein's and what is the ride quality like? are there any noticable problems? I read somewhere that they can rust if the paint has chipped off.

Im gonna be tracking the car hopefully once every two months but i also want it to be street drivable.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

from my experience tein ss are perfect for street. very comfortable yet stiff enough to take corners hard. for spirited driving tein ss are good, however I wouldnt use for tracking. I havent experienced any rust problems, but with anything you should take care of it. I spray the exposed metal parts with wd-40 or the tein spray once in awhile.
If you can stretch the budget I would go with buddyclub n+, or even get tein ss for street and buy cheap 2nd hand stiff coilovers for tracking use.

i have had the tein ss in my car (dc2r) for over a year now, and i cant compare with other brands as i havnt tried, but i love my ss, u will find that they may seem a little soft for the street if u drive it daily, but after not driving the car for a week and drive something else, once u get back into ur car it feels like a complete different car...

i have used them for a track day and just stiffened up the damper adjustment to suit the track and found they worked really well, especially as im not on the track to break records, but more for fun

Just personally I'd take Buddyclub N+ or Skunk2 over the Tein SS.
Simply because the height can be adjusted on them without affecting spring preload or piston stroke.
I have Tein Flex and they are soft enough for street but can be stiff if the damper is adjusted, I think they would be soft on the track though.

Are you able to go to a meet?
There may be people running Super Street coilovers who would be kind enough to take you for a spin.

Buddyclub N+. They have huge height adjustability and are bareable on the street and good on the track. If you're soft then go tein ss but they can only be lowered about 8cm and are too soft for my liking. No idea about the skunk 2 coild but they seem to be the cheapest of the 3.

I hav the jap tein ss which r a bit stiffer than the aussie ones n personally i love them... if ur only gna hit the track once every now n then ur prolly best goin for somethin like that as u'll get sick of the stiff ride. To be honest with u im already getn sick of every bump n manhole on the rd n i drive around on softest setting.

Yet to test em on the track but on stiffest damper setting they r pretty good n with a decent set of swaybars n braces i have very minimal lean or roll.

Although somethin like a tein monoflex imo is a better option if u got the $$$ as its fairly soft on softest option but track-worthy when damper is cranked up.

thanks for the reply guys...

iv done a bit more research and ask a few of my friends and been in their cars with tein ss and personally i think they are a bit soft for my liking as i like it a bit firm. So iv changed my mind and will be looking into some buddy clubs N+ coilovers as they have all the capabilities of adjustments that im looking for.

sorry to change the topic but how does buddy clubs N+ feel on the road?? i tend to do a bit of hill driving so i was looking a some progressive coilovers as its a bit bumpy here in Adelaide but i noticed that buddy club N+ only do linear. Is it a big difference? and what are the normal spring rates that people tend to get? Im looking at getting 10k F and 6k R.

Cheers

avoid tein ss they are alittle soft for street and track alike. They feel like they are mismatched and "hobble" abit too much for my liking. Plus , they are only 1 perch adjustable and will not go as low as you really want them to.

Get N+ or T1R

IMO tein SS r perfect for street... certainly do the job through the hills but hav yet 2 test em on track but then again even stock itr shocks r decent on track n these r definitely stiffer.

Yeah 1 thing u'll notice tho is that u cant "dump" the rear... tyre will sit level with guard but front goes LOW... lip will sit on the pavement on lowest setting... definitely 1 thing they f***d up.

*** i havnt actually tryed the aussie spec ss so im not sure what they r like compared 2 jap spec... by the sounds of it they r much softer.

In the hills u definitely dont want ur shocks 2 b 2 stiff as u'll get crazy bump steer... i always turn damper setting down a bit b4 i hit the hills.

I have (F)9K and (R)4K.
With the light rear end of my EG, the rear is pretty harsh.

The valve set up in the damper makes a huge difference though, don't determine everything based on spring rates.

just got my N+, every click u when u adjust the damper shows u the difference straight away!! when ur on the softest setting it'll be great already for street use, hence theres a road call parramatta road in syd which is fked up, for myself i can live with the softest setting running on parramatta road, dun about adelaide, but u get what u paid for! go N+:)

I suggest you consider the Eibach Pro Street coilovers in your list. They have good comfort and handling combined.

Thanks for all you advice on a few brands that i have suggested. Very much appreciated :)

Iv ended up ordering a set of buddy club N+ and they should be here in a week or so. I cant wait to test them on the road, track, and hills. Ill post up how they feel and what i think of them when i get them.

Late reply, although the SS are made for the Australian road standards, so pretty much the SS were custom made in Japan for the Australian roads. So if you get defected regarding ride height and and you get caught with coilovers you wouldn't be getting into as much strife as you would with another type or brand of coilover
As for the other brands, i'm not going to speak on all, but i would assume you would have get them taken off if you had gotten caught.

I was almost 100% getting a set of BC N+ but a friend notified me that they weren't made in Japan anymore and were made in Taiwan.
I didn't know if it was true or not but i did have another option which were TEIN's and i ended up with the Flex.
One main reason is that in Australia there is a TEIN suspension specialist distributor called Fulcrum and they specialise with TEIN's, so if i wanted my coilovers rebuild or whatever then they can do it for me.

i find the tein ss are good.. i also use the edfc as i was sick to death of pulling the rear speakers out to adjust.. i set it to soft on the higway and stiffen it up round town...so im happy with it and like IVEAQ8 mentioned when you go into another car back to yours for a while you'll noticed its firm enough..... my mate has an ek with king spring and aftermarket shocks... he loves going in my car his is like a waterbed..

Do you know the rates of the jap spec?
I'm looking for something a little softer,
i'm currently running Apexi adjustable shocks (6 being max, is ultra hard like cement) made in japan. Really stiff stuff
with kings, so its silghtly unmatched, but comfortable cause the kings are not stiff. Looked up jap spec is 8kg front and 4kg rear, but wanna confirm. This is for the DC2R.

hey guys,
Sorry for the late post up been very busy..

Anyway, the BC N+ are a dream to have in my car. handling is very sharp and i enjoy the ride. A bit harsh at times but i can still stand it. Currently i have it set for 6 dampering at the front and 4 dampering for the rear.

I have turned it up to 10 dampering front and 12 damper rear and that was wayyyy to harsh for Adelaide roads but good for the track.

As for track use, i would recomend these coilovers. Sweet buy..

Wouldnt have a clue about the rates to be honest with... but i'll put it this way... i used 2 run king spring "lows" on my car with standard shocks and these Tein SS (jap) are only a tad stiffer over bumps on softest setting, but much more progressive with a lot less body roll/lean. On stiffest its another story. i actually took it out 4 a track day n yeah, definitely a tad soft through the real sharp corners but still held up pretty well n beat Jimsta's civic quite comfartably hehe ...mind u i am pullin a fair few more ponies than him.

Overall i wouldnt think theres bugger all difference between the JDM n AUDM teins but obviously these would be a tad stiffer.

ps. these r for dc2r yes, but i would assume they would hav the same or very similar rates for other models.
