ive been a member for a while now and i always come here when i want to know something about a car and use the search, but, now i need to post,
im looking at a new car, needs to be p plater friendly and under 10 yrs old.
ive driven, dc5, fto, prelude vtir, integra vtir, skyline r34 4 door, liberty, impreza rs, accord, and and mr2.
ive narrowed it down to, impreza rs, skyline 4 door, and prelude.
i know your going to say prelude. but.
i do like the others, and ive asked this question in another forum and got bagged so be kind. the impreza rs, isnt very fast and never will be but i do want to modify a car a little bit and i want the impreza to be a little quicker than what it is and i was thinking, ecu and adjustable cam gears. with the exhaust etc, but i cant find anywhere that sells and ecu for the impreza rs they sell them for the wrx same year. so, im after a definate answer if anyone can give me one, can the wrx aftermarket ecu be used with the n/a rs. or, do you know someone who sells the ecu for an rs?
next question is the prelude. haha. ive got the same idea for the prelude, ecu and whatever. i know there out there and who sells them but, im lost as to which one would be the best for example, hondata or greddy or whatever and what sorta gains in actual performance could i be looking at
any info would be awesome. or links.
thanks

have you searched this site for ecu for the prelude im assuming your going to get the 97+ ludes. think my brother has a s300 in his lude, and from the looks of it i like the preludes body and your on a honda forum so yeah basically you can find parts for the car.

S300 can support H22 engine. no problem.
Hondata is a fully programmable ECU that you can actually adjust it realtime thru laptop.
as in actual performance gains, it will be varied due to the mods you have and the direction of where do you want to use the car for ie. track, street, drag, or street and track etc.
you can adjust the A/F ratio, and lean the fuel out accordingly. for track use, mostly ppl are after response, torque, midrange power rather than outright top end power like drags for example.
therefore, track car won't have those massive dyno numbers, cos simply they don't need that.

An impreza RS won't be as quick as a prelude without you changing the cams and totally stuffing up the drivability of the engine. Go prelude. Get a manual though. More fun and less power loss through the drivetrain.

Once you start messing with the cams and ECU, P-plater friendly goes down the drain....

aww man no way. i didnt think that ecu or cams would affect p platerness. but, if the cop pops the bonnet, is he going to know if i have aftermakrte cams or and ecu? i know thats shonky but, yeah. and yeah, 97+ prelude and only manual. i looked at hondata but once i saw "must be swapped using an OBDIIA-ODBI adapter " i was lost lol. so i went looking at an apexi neo. but yeah. and im not worried about how much power the car makes i wanted an ecu and cams purely cause i thought id get a bit better acceleration 0-60ks and 0-100ks.
thanks for your replies, heaps of help.

you will get better 0 - 60 and 0 - 100 and i doubt your everyday copper is gonna know u got an aftermarket ecu
my friend has an 04 rs.. i absoloutely love it... its not a complete nugget but yer its not the quickest thing goin round.. its just a really good car lol every1 is being so biased 4 the lude as ud expect on a honda forum :P
i dont like 4 door skylines i think their very ugly n llong ?
as for the prelude they are pretty nice. the vtir's they'll beat the rest of em u mentioned. but yeh either is a really good first car. the rs is just a good car lol.
with ur price range have u thought about a dc2r?? drive 1 and i think ull be very impressed ;)

lude lude and more lude it will smash both those cars standard...
use standard air box put a pod filter inside...
up the size of those exhaust piping press bent looks standard
keeping the standard muffler or after market twintip OVAL muffler
they aint gunna notice if you've put new cams in and cam gears? theyre covered
ECU wont notice....
or DC2R like moey mentioned

dude... how the hell is p plater out of th window with cams or ecu? so stupid
you buy a prelude right.. dont mid anything then but you want to mod and your going to mod, so I/H/E, cams, camshaft, valve springs, storker kit hondata ecu, tune it and your car is a machine

haha i knew it would be biased towards the prelude. i already drive a honda and i love it so i dont mind ppl being biased. the problem is, after ever car ive driven, i get back in mine and i just like the feel of it, they way i hear every road noise or feel everything through the steering wheel and the sound of the little honda motor revving hard and loving it, even being 17 years old with 252000 ks, it still goes better and feels better than alot of the other cars. i think some just lack, i dunno, driver bonding haha
