straight pipe without cat is used to create better airflow without any restriction, therefore will create extra power. but again, it all depends on what you have done on the intake and header side of thing (or even internals).

its all about balance.

wouldnt balancing be the same as having the right inlet size for headers, cat muffler and other pipping?

how come other drivers can get away of having no cat and a straight pipe?

And they're gangsta.

IMO, even if you get the cat for a 'just incase' its worth it (bearing in mind many do it, many get away with it and it sound noiice)

what I mean is 'balance' as in total balance between 'in' and 'out' (like intake header and exhaust for example) not 'balancing'

cos there are ways on playing around with the diameter of the pipings to create more power. or do it wrongly, reducing the power.

There were a few people at the Ikea meet with straight pipes.

People usually buy a aftermarket cat with there headers etc and use that.

Xforce have good cats I'm lead to believe (as of recent)

V I'd personally use that more.

No cat = $10,000 fine from EPA. Go high flow cat and also get a defouler to avoid check engine lights. High flow cats are better than a 5 digit fine.

errrrr....so that means if you do the engine swap you will have no money for uni nor to pay for your loan. and ended up selling the car regardless....

is that correct???

don't do anything to your car unless you have the cash!
don't want to go around with a hole in your pocket....
learn to save and gradually get things done....

goodluck on the car.

from the past 6months i saved money to do a b16 swap but realising that uni is gonna be hectic soon i wont be able to do certain hours anymore at work to pay off my car and car expenses. so im deciding on selling my car to pay off my loan and on top of that the cash i saved up from 6months..

sorry for being real asian..

So what's the point of asking about mods, and say you're doing an engine conversion when you're going to sell your car?

Just remember that people running straight pipes without cats run a HUGE risk, any knowledgable cop can tell that you're not running a cat just by the smell of your exhaust.

Straight pipes without a cat might provide small gains but are definately not worth the risk.
