HI All,

i have found that when i hit fast/hard corners i get an aweful rattle from the engine? when accelerating.

it seems to me like an oil pickup problem??

Anyone help plz???

Many Thanks

Is the sump baffled?

Without a baffle oil splashes or interacts with the crank.

Baffled is a plate/cover that is on the sump.
It doesnt let the oil splash around during hard cornering, keeps it all in the sump.

So im guessing you dont have a baffled sump.
Check that youre not over filling engine oil.
That rattle is probably bottom end knock. It aint good.

Edit:

Just read you put in coilovers.

Or. you have a loose bolt. Check suspension. You should be getting the same rattle going through bumpy roads.

I would check the sussy first, was this street cornering or circuit? are your coilovers new/second hand?

coilovers brand new, def not sussy rattle.
sound like and engine rattle.

i cant find a baffle for a d16y4 engine, i have heard you can get baffles made/put into your existing sump????who/where?? any ideas?

Thanks Guys

what tyres are you using ? And what weight oil (Xw/Yw)
Its very possible , due to extra g forces during harder cornering you are starving the engine of oil at certain stages. Does the oil light flicker on at all during this time ? If not you have sufficient oil pressure , the issue is likely the pickup. The rattle probably is damaging your engine ever so slightly...

yes engine/oil light comes on, i have cheap street tyres atm although will have semi s next week. the oil is a 15w/40, what oil would you recommend? and in regards to the baffle/pickup problem can you suggest anything?

Many Thanks

If you taking the corner and accelerating, it could be caused by your tyres losing and regaining traction, which gives a grinding feeling.

Definitely engine rattle not tyres or sussy!

i think my best option is to get a baffled sump customed made

can anyone suggest a place to get it done???

If you are using cheap street tyres, you won't be pulling enough G's to cause the oil pickup to starve.

semi slicks going on next week!

Yes, but you are currently having a problem while still using street tyres. So there is a big chance that a baffled sump won't solve the problem (although it is good to get anyway)
