Hi

I have an 07 model CR-V Sport which I've owned for about 6 weeks now. I have refuelled the car 3 times now and have noticed the fuel economy is very poor. The specifications say 10L/100Km but I'm lucky to get 14L/100km. Bit less than 400km to a tank.

Just wondering how the fuel economy is for other CR-V owners? What fuel do you use? Would I benefit from putting the premium fuel in?

Thanks

I have an 08 model, and I get around 11-13L/100km depending on how I drive. Usually around 430-440km per tank. I just use regular unleaded fuel.

That's a worry. I wonder why mine is so poor

10L/100km are "highly optimistic" figures. You'd be able to do that if you were doing 80%+ highway conditions.
13-15L/100km would be "normal" for almost 100% urban situations.

Given that it's the same engine in the Euro Accord (1,400kg) and the C-RV (1,600kg) - the extra weight of the C-RV does it no favours for fuel economy.

Its fairly comon knowledge that the Crv's are not the best with fuel economy. We have a 06 Crv and I too was not happy with the figures when we 1st got it.

Agreed, Wife use it most of the times around suburbia dropping the kids off etc and averages about 13-14/100kms. Even when I drive it to work (25kms) on the freeway best I've got it down to is 11.5/100km.

One thing to note is that the test conditions that were tested under ADR do not replicate real world driving, factors such as wind resistance and atmospheric conditions are not factored in.

about 13L for 100% city driving and 8.5L on highway both with shell v-power. Do note that the display avg.fuel consumption is a bit inaccurate. Its best to do manual calculation each time you fill up. Try different fuel company as i've notice different brand give a slight improvement in consumption

Furel consumption figures quoted on the silly sticker may be accurate for "test conditions", but it bears no resemblance of the reality we all live in. That is why I treat the fuel consumption figures as more like "works of fiction".

in 2002, we test drove several cars to buy a new car. The new Ford came out and the quoted fuel consumption was about 11L/100km. As a demo car which was driven home by the salesmen and considering the lead foot treatment for a fun ride, the trip computer showed up as 21L/100km. So reality sat somewhere between these two extremes.

I use 93 petrol from Caltex mostly. I find the average fuel consumption counter very accurate. I reset the counter after every fill up. I did use a manual calculation a few times and got the very same figures.

May I suggest to check the tyre pressure, just in case...

We have an 07/08 crv 6 speed man, mix of driving, 60 -70% city 30 - 40% hwy, and we consistantly get low 9L / 100km even high 8L / 100km on several occasions. Definately happy with our CRV's consumption. Car has just clocked over 40k, bought brand new and serviced @ honda at all required service intervals.

6 speeds the way to go!

07/08 crv 6 speed man

"manual" is the key word here
Once you swith to auto you can add at least 1-1.5 l/100 km :D

I've put Shell V-Power in at the last fill so I'll see if that helps. I can see by the gauge it's down to 13L now, from over 14L so perhaps it helps. Not sure if it is worth the extra cost though.

ive got a 07 CRV and daily trips to work and back consists of urban and highway (5 mins on the M7) and always clock an average of about 11.5 L/100km. Usually get a good 400 kms at the end of every week.

I use Premium 98 usually @ shell or BP, piss Caltex off! for some reason their fuel is horrible, maybe diluted with water, makes consumption less than impressive and i can feel a difference in engine performance.

the one thing that impressed me with this heavy crv-suv-car was a trip to Dubbo clocking in about 6 - 7 L/100km giving me a wooping 600km and over to the tank.

this 3rd gen crv is still a good car economic wise. Its not too thirsty and not that underpowered. I suppose its just a right balance and what to expect for a suv-car of this calibre.

Up till yesterday afternoon I've been driving a gen one 5 speed manual CR-V (2L engine). I fill up with Caltex 95, and I've gone as far as 530km on one tank (~9.1L/100km) with conservative driving, but 480-500km is typical.

Yesterday I got my 09 6 speed manual CR-V - yet to see whether it'll match the fuel consumption with a 2.4L engine....

My 03 2.4L 5sp Manual gets on average around 400-420km a tank (city only). Not really happy that it drinks like a six.

I drive CRV-08 lux auto, my average is 9.9liter/100km after 10k service. I never reset the trip B since I bought the car last year.
The trip computer will starting to show close to correct avg figure after you travel 100km.
In the 1st 20-30km of driving in mixed condition after resetting the trip meter, it is normal to return around 15-17lt/100km
so far I am happy with the fuel cons considering I accelerate hard with the car to get to the cruising speed.
I use regular unleaded 91, 36psi tyre pressure
My normal figure is between 8.8liter to 9.5liter/100km (60% freeway), the bad figure is between 10.8 - 11.3liter/100km in stop go traffic.

I get 10.2 l/100Km with an MY06XT Forester in suburban traffic (but not peak hour stuff). Yes the turbo cuts in, but I don't launch the thing. Quite happy really. I don't carry much in the back except for 3 cases of medicines.

Interesting to see the posts on this thread. I would have expected better on an N/A

Getting 8.8 litres to the 100km at the moment 2008 auto CRV. 91 octane shell with 50/50 highway to suburban driving. overall i am pretty happy with getting about 500 kms to a fuel tank.

Just refuelled. 47.05 litres for 537 kms travelled. 50/50 suburban / highway driving. 8.74 litres per 100 kms. Shell unleaded, 91 octane.

I have an 07 also, mostly Highway driving and will get 500km out of a tank. Minimum octane I suggest is 95.... I use the 10% ethenol stuff and it goes fine.

I have notice a big economy plunge when my foot feels a little heavier than normal or have to do more city driving. This engine at high rpm sounds just great :D

Hi all, I just returned from Holiday and we drove from the Gold Coast to Melbourne and return. Used 91 Ethanol all the way. 90% of this travelling was country driving at between 110 to 115 km/hour. The car was fully loaded with 3 x big bags, pram and all the baby gear you would need for a 3 week trip.

My CRV is an auto with 18,000 kms on it when we left. Tyre pressure all round was 38 PSI (possibly more than recommended but I seem to get a nice ride at this pressure). We travelled 3400 kms and the best fuel economy I got was 7.78 litres to the 100kms. Worst fuel economy between fills was 8.9 litres to the 100km. We averaged 8.54 litres to the 100 km. (these were all manual calculations as the trip metre was pretty inaccurate - either higher or lower - it was never within say 400 ml of the manually calculated consumption figures)

Overall I am pretty happy with the fuel consumption of my CRV.

To continue the returned from holiday thread.

We just returned from a 1100km Sydney-Thredbo-Sydney holiday running on E10

On the trip our 7 week old CR-V 2.4L Auto returned 9.2L/100km bringing our overall average down to 12.8L/100km.

We travelled with three adults a teenager and one child and their luggage for a week in the snow.

All passengers had a comfortable ride including middle rear (before purchase we did a lot of middle rear testing of other cars), the heating/air conditioning and very good sound sytem helped.

I was hoping to get down to below 9l/100km but am well satisfied as the car performed beautifully and never lacker for power on the 6 1/2 hour drive each way.

It's back to more mundane weekday commute and weekend soccer duties where it was averaging 14.4L/100km... still working on getting that lower.

A well satisfied CR-Ver

Interesting comparison.

I came back from Jindy on the weekend. Leaving Friday morning ~2am and returning Sunday afternoon. The 1045km trip averaged 9.2L/100km. This is on a 09 CRV 6 speed manual. 2 passengers + gear for the trip up and back, but 4 passengers + gear at Jindy. Probably did not use the air conditioning at all should shouldn't have affected fuel consumption.

This is really interesting as in my experience I've always managed more mileage with RON 95. Each week I average 9.8L/100km getting a total (max) ~550km/tank, yet here we've managed the same fuel consumption to the snow. Quite possibly the auto is just as efficient as the manual on highway speeds, and the octane rating has less of an impact?

Just so you know, if ever your battery has gone flat or been disconnected you may need to carry out a base idle learn procedure. This will actually let the ecu learn specific values of the motor and in turn save fuel. It can be requested during a service at any dealer, just ask.. cos who knows some times it never gets done 'correctly' before a vehicle leaves them in the first place.. Just a thought :)

Interesting topic.....remember, ADR figures are from experts driving so quite unattainable to most...
Fuel, load (ie weight) of car, air con usage, tyre pressures all play a part in economy...but the big thing is the driver. Are they a leadfoot or a nanna ?
To the person who compared a crv to a six for fuel economy...dream on....;)A crv takes 45 litres in the tank, so 400 to 450 for driving in the city is pretty good... a dunnydore might also only get 400ish k's, but not from 45 litres...more like 60+....
I have our CRV tyres at higher pressure (38 psi +) and as well as increasing tyre life, fuel economy get a bit better.
Using higher octane fuel doesn't really do much, especially considering the usual price difference. It is hardly only a few cents more. The 10-20 cents price hike doesn't make it worthwhile for sitting in city traffic, only highway trips....

Hi
DO you have any figures on Higher Octane fuel V Standarrd Unleaded or E10?

Our CRV 06 Sport auto......i worked out some figures
Using standard unleaded, with mostly driving around the city on relatively short trips...
Aircon not used due cool weather in Adelaide.
Almost exactly 10 litres per 100kms.
I have put in E10 to compare.
Will see what i get.
But for a car of its size, no complaints here.

Good update here too. 2010 CR-V

Inner West Sydney, so all stop start, for the last 1200 km all with E10

14.2 l/100km according to the onboard computer

Last 2 fill ups with Unleaded 95octane 14.1 l/100km but it costs 8cents a litre more.... so not looking an economical alternative.
