i know i know.. befor you guys start saying, i will save you guys the hassle of saying "use the search button" cus i already have.

iv checked the oil, check and cleaned connectors to the Vtec solenoid, car sits on perfect operating temp.

i was going to do the self ecu diagnostic, but i cant find the blue connector to put the paper clip into...

what other things can i look at..

i was actually thinking of removing the Vtec solenoid and seeing if its dirty in there:o but not sure if that could possibly be the problem.

like i said iv searched this forum, but if ive missed it, and you know exactly where is the thread is for my problem, can you be so kind to paste the link...

thanks HHHEEEAAPPPSS in advance:thumbsup::thumbsup:

more info, mods, who did the swap and how long ago was the swap done, etc etc

run a wire from the vtec solenoid plug thru the back of your bonnet & in thru the drivers window.
hook up a small 12v globe like 5W or similar to the wire,
ground the other side of the globe,
go for a drive & see if the globe lights up when u are supposed to hit vtec

it was like this the way i got it...

yhe i was actually thinking of doing this tomorrow... today i took apart the Vtec unit, checked it wasnt cloged up, changed the oil, was going to put a digital oil pressure gauge in but didnt get time.

check connection for the fuse. and solenoid.

check connection for the fuse. and solenoid.

which fuse it is,

i put 12v to the solenoid and you can hear it click,
i made a "vtec light" it didnt go off...

think i might put the find the wire that conetc to the comp and see if its not broken anywhere,

anymore tips ppls..any help is good

do a continuity check on the vtec solenoid wire back to pin A4 at the ecu.

since the wire was added to do the swap, its highly likely its broken/bad joint/etc.

what engine harness was used for the swap?

i actually just tried to sus that out, but wasnt sure which wire was the Vtec wire into the computer. can you please tell me which ones the "A4" pin

what i was going to do is put a new wire driect from the solinoid to the comp so i know 100% its got full contact. that way iv narrowed it down to a fulty comp

thanks

i would do a slef diognostic to the car, but my engine light dont go on at all ..

did it ever kick in, or just stopped recently lol.

CRXer

engine light has recently stopped working or has never worked since swap?

assuming u are still obd1,hold the ecu so u are looking at the wires going into plugs & the biggest plug(26pin) is on the left.
A4 is the 2nd pin from the bottom left on the 26pin plug.

before u go tossing the ecu, theres other inputs u should check first, but check this output first.

also, touch a ground connection to pin A13(7th from top left 26pin plug) with ignition turned on & see if engine light comes on.

ahhhh i get ya..
i think the guy that wired it up, did it wrong.
what is the 1st pin for "a1" i think, cus it looks like he wired the solinoid to that :S

lol, thats injector No1,woulda made for some funky vtec....

put some pics up

edit:A1 that is

one step at a time

you f**king serz.. lol man there is some sh!!T wiring up in there.. lol is that going to damage?

dont want to take pics cus its embarrassing. the person that wired this car up should be shot

also going to do the things you just told me now. wont be able to test drive it till tomorrow as actually already in bed... lol..
give me 5 mins and ill get back you on the engine light

CRXer

nothing could be as bad as what i saw the other day lol.

pics would help to know your identifying the right wires & this doesnt just turn into some wild goose chase

norm84

ok the wire i did rig up today was the Vtec wire... i think its the comp hey :(

norm84
28-07-2009, 09:54 PM
ill re do the wire now, and see how it goes tomorrow. i might even see if i can rig up a new plug to fit into the A4 part...

CRXer

A4 turns vtec solenoid on/off with 12V,solenoid grounded thru the cylinder head
whole A-plug(26pin) in general is outputs

CRXer

stop editing your posts lol,or make one post or somethin...

if u need a new pin to go into A4,i have some here

just to make sure we're speaking the same language & u dont blow something else up

hard to tell anything from the pic for wiring, too far away.

ecu looks like its had a couple of traces repaired below the chip, unless thats just wierd lighting effect...

what does the sticker say on the side of the ecu? ie P30 or P28 or P06 or P??,etc
could be one of those nasty vtec converted jobs

is this the yellow eg by any chance

if its the yellow eg its the vtec solenoid wire it was disconnected b4 wen my mate had it vtec didnt kick in until he found it and wired it up the vtec should work as it did wen my mate owned it

FUK YHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE EEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! guess who got the Vtec workin?????

ME!!!

thanks heaps everyone..

it ended up been the computer not putting enough voltage to the solenoid :S
so just went to jay car to find something to fix this problem, so i got a thing that creates more voltage from any volt, my comp was only putting out a max 6 volts to the solenoid.
now i can control when i want it to kick in. iv only set it to kick in at 5400ish.... but dammmmmmm it revs so much harder all the way to 9000rpm and the sound --HOLY FKNSHIT!!!... its insane...

thanks again to everyone :)

hahaha good 2 hear, the vtec reason was one of the reasons why my mate didn't buy it

post some sound clips ;)

SOo, the overal problem is the ECU yeh?

norm84
29-07-2009, 08:52 PM
thats what im thinking hey,

took it for a hit tonight and found out that the car runs funny on lower revs.
also the vtec sound doesn't sound like it suddenly kicks in at 5400rpm,
as soon as i put my foot down (no matter revs) it sounds like the induction sound of vtec but softer until it gets up and goes, the sound gradually keeps going louder and louder till 9000rpm, also its alot more sluggish on low revs..

me thinks, that vtec is now on full time or kicking in wayyyyyyyyyyyyy to early

any inputs would be good.. thanks,

its prob a vtec converted ecu like a P06,P29 etc
could be just a bad solder joint or just bad component on the enabled vtec circuit.

ecu just looks dodgy in general from that one pic anyway
put up a pic of the top left hand quarter of the ecu board
if i was u,i would just dump it & find a factory vtec ecu like a p30 or even chip a p28,p72

contact ECU-MAN,i do believe he has some spare socketed vtec ecus available

its a chipped P30, but alllllllll goooooooooooooood now. its wasn't the comp after all :P just shit wiring, wires going to places it shouldnt be. now i get Vtec yo and better fuel consumption. also cleaned up the wiring heaps and made sure all the connections were 100%
thanks again everyone for your help.

and special thanks to CRXrer and the dude at TODA performance...

I wouldn't put B16 in a EG, lol go for B18 or B20 or K20 :D
