Right guys, I need to know somethings and maybe you can tell me a few things before buying a car.

Car I'm buying: Honda Civic EG Si

1) What are some good KM's for buying EG's around how many K's will be good for a EG, some people say they can clock back the KM's and trick you. How can I tell if it's being for real or clocked back?

2) How can I tell know what exact model it is? Does it say Si or something anywhere on the car?

3) How can I tell if it's been in good condition?

4) Anything else I should know, thanks!

1. u can go to RTA to check registration record (shows how many kms done when transferred between sellers & buyers). but i think u can only have access to this when you have ownership of the actual vehicle...[someone correct me if i'm wrong].

2. read engine code & match it with rego paper rather than just reading a "Si sticker" at the back

here is a link of EG models etc...

3. look @ the aesthetic appearance. look, listen, feel and overall check the engine (get a good mechanic to inspect for u if you arent mechnically knowlegable)

4. too much things to know! keep on searching searchign searching =P

Thanks Vil, lets say I buy a car from Carsales. Bought it and then I went RTA and mechanic to do a check up etc... and I find that I have been scammed. Can I bring the car back to the owner? Someone like to tell me what I do when this kinda thing happens?

usually you can tell before hand. look at the km's and they should be straight and in line. also check the condition of the steering wheel and the pedals.

also +1 to take it to a mechanic. mine put it on the hoist and checked the chassis was straight too

get all your checks done before hand.

RACQ do onsite checks of vehicles for buyers. i got one done for the car i was buying. i was in QLD and it was in CAnberra. I organised it interstate and they posted the results to me.

u can organize to take it to a mechanic before buying.. if there are minor problems, you have a good reason to renegotiate the price..

minor problems are like worn tyres, bushes, brake pads, cv joints.

1) my eg5 is quickly approaching 300k! over 290k at the monent and still going strong. hit redline everyother day.

treat it like i stole it BUT keep it running the cleanest full syn oil and RON 98 fuel. so number of k's wouldn't be my highest priority but more so the service history!!! get a feel for the owner. is he a religious take it to get serviced kinda guy or a once and a while diy kinda guy? hos it been looked after?

2)to tell if it is a ture eg5 (92/93 = si 94/95 = vti) the chassis code should start with jhmeg5##### eg5 is the chassis code. same as eg4 eg3 etc

also the biggest thing to look for on the DOHC is d16a8 print on the engine. if the is no dohc or d16a8 not a go.

all wheel disc brace and sway bars front and rear too. and you CAN NEVER EVER FORGET THE CUP HOLDERS ABOVE THE GEAR STICK!

3) you most probably can't but a mechanic can.

4) eg si's ROCK! i love mine everyday! my so far best mods so if your splashing cash look at these 1. 22mm rear sway bar and asr brace! overall the best handling upgrade!!!!!!! 2. my prelude electric bucket seats! the stock one SUCK!!!! get them out!
