hey guys im getting ready to install my mugen twinloop exhaust that i just got!!! finally!! will no longer be a ricer!!! WOOOOOO!!! :P
but yea do i need to go about seeking a new cat for the install??
or will it be fine with the old cat??
a mate told me metal cat or magnaflo?

what do u guys think?
i know that the exhaust alone wont do much interms of performance..
but im just really sick and tired of the droney sound from my current exhaust.. and when i have ppl in the car to have a convo i would be yelling at them..

so is a new cat needed and will it change much??
cheers guys

you will need the same size oem jdm triangle flange to suit
i would not get the eaxhaust shop to hack your new exhaust
or you could run a oem jdm 2.5 inch cat
or get the jdm flanges to suit from the traders on here to make it fit properly

run the oem one from jdm version, you should find it at import wrecker, then just gut it if you want,

edit.but when you gut it, it stinks like fuel when you stop the car. do you have any aftermarket header ? lol sounds like your car is loud

nah i dont have any headers yet looking to get toda headers know anyone with a set??
my car is damn loud!!! esp when i hit vtec.. guy that had it b4 me i dont know what he did but my mate had a look at my exhaust and he told me that it was a tip that was just welded on and yea BIG NOISE!!!!
if i were to 'gut' the cat wouldnt that make it illegal??

and as long as i have a hiflow its okay??
doesnt matter what brand make or model or being custom.. as long as it fits right?

they will not have a cat to suit
thay will do you a custom one
where they will hack your new exhaust and put a cheap 2 bolt flange on
i would not let this happen to a nice exhaust

yeah gutting cat is illegal, its like a enviro fine, but i used to just turn car off if they ever pulled me over.

and nah dont know anyone with toda header aye, really rare to come up second hand.

if you got tight budget bro, just look for second hand from import wrecker, like seeker motorsport or a local one that brings in honda shiet.

if you really want new headers but dont wanna spend 1k plus, you can always buy 5zigen for about 800 bucks brand new or 900, and there decent.

i reccomend second hand good quality header but instead of brand new xforce or some shit

because usually dont have the odd jdm honda triangle flange or 2.5" donut
so they do what they do best
chop up good exhaust and put there cheap ass 2 bolt flange
and charge you more
and stuff up your exhaust for ever as you can never use jdm headers and cat with out modifing them
most exhaust shop dont have aclue when it comes to jdm flange sizes

if you have a jdm header/cat and cat back
you can install yourself
evrything bolts up and lines up
just need 12/14mm spanners , sockets and ratchet
easy as

you need jdm 2.5 donut flange / donut gasket
and jdm triangle flange
all sold buy traders on here

and just need to weld up and get correct lenght

then everything bolts up

custom to exhaust shop means i dont have the correct parts and i like to do my way the easiest way for them
you are paying for their service you tell how you want it
not what they want

do research get the right parts and less hassle in long run

damn that sounds scary..
im worried now..
so dont let them cut my exhaust.. i kinda guessed that..
but seeing as its a mugen cat back can i suggest them make a cat to suit without modding or cutting my exhaust.. coz for sure i wont let them cut it.. will it bolt onto my oem cat?
(O_O) sorry im probably asking really annoying questions but i really dont know much about cars at all.. so i dont really wanna f*** it up..
but will that work okay if they r able to make a custom cat/flange to suit by twinloop?

not it wont fit your gay oz itr cat
you will need a shorter jdm cat like 30cm with the correct flanges
as yours is 45cm long and has a very restrictive small flange
so the mugen is made to fit the 30cm jdm cat
post in wanted section for the jdm cat
when you have that you cat fit your self easy as
if not they wont have the flanges trust me
odd size they dont carry

sighhh i have my car booked to go into the shop tomorrow morning..
guess i will go in there and see if they can help..
if not i will have to get a jdm cat..
so even if i were to get a metal cat..
it still wont be any good..
coz of the triangle flanges??

EP3EVA
28-07-2009, 08:33 PM
wont exhaust shop, would able to atless copy the triangle flange design?, to match?

i know is now jdm, is still just a metal, like people go custom exhaust system, and stuff.

do you know there(workshop) history? eg, have done plenty of honda's, and so on

coz of the triangle flanges??

if you get the jdm flange you will need jdm headers
you will have trouble if you just get the triangle flange anyway
with the lenght of the audm headers and cat it will not line up

so i would get some cheap headers
like jdm 4-1 itr headers and jdm cat
400 for headers and 150 -200 for cat
big difference you will feel
then later change to metal cat if you want
when you get the flanges to suit

but your car do what you want to do
if you want it on tmr
get the exhaust shop to do what they do best
but you will regret it later
looking at your hacked up quality exhaust system

any exhaust shop can make flanges, hello they are exhaust shop now, Pizza shop.

they work on exhaust for living:wave:

just go there and ask them how would they install cat+mugen catback, if is sound rite DO IT, if not just walk out......

i got the exhaust shop to install my genuine mugen exhaust. i already had headers and all they were supposed to do was put flanges on a new high flow cat and bolt it all up. i told them sooo many times..repeated not to cut the exhaust or header, coz i want to be able to unbolt the cat and install the catback onto other cars..but wat did they do. chop and weld my mugen exhaust. and the same thing happened to my mate, they chopped and welded his genuine mugen header. soooo pissed

nah they welded just the cat and exhaust together. i complained n was like wtf i told u so many times what i wanted. dumbass guy was like oh sorry i shud listen better next time. drive ur car back in and we will fit it up. but i told him that was pointless coz u wil never get it the same and it will never bolt onto another car nemore.

no they are too lazy
unless they are making some good money off you they wont go to great lenghts to do anything that is not off the shelf
as said before honda flanges are a odd size and cannot be had with the off the shelf normal sizes
so being a mechanic they have all the parts on hand to fix your car everytime you want it dont there and then ?

like i said your parts together 1st
then tell what to do

Just get a JDM cat and get it over and done with. Last time I called up an exhaust shop to fit my exhaust they told me exactly "usually these aftermarket exhausts dont fit correctly and need some welding to be done". If you get all the parts you need just take it to a mechanic or do it yourself.

My suggestion is simply "do it once and do it right".

and i'd personally do what 90LAN said.

I have a question for the threadstarter. Do you have a DC2 or a DC5? Because it will simply bolt up fine if you have a DC5.

battousaik
29-07-2009, 11:05 PM
sorry should have explained..
chargeR i have a DC2R
and the job has been done!!
i am very happy and would recommend ANYONE and EVERYONE in PERTH
to AUTOWORKSHOP.com.au
yes they are a evo specialist but my friend recommended them
and they r top notch!!!
i went in told them that i didnt want the exhaust cut IF possible..
and they told me they would let me know b4 they touched anything..
they called me with updates and to let me know what was needed..
they made sure that it was all okay b4 they started the work..

so the end result.. original custom ricer exhaust was cut off..
coz the previous owner welded the thing on tight.. LOL
and new high flow cat installed new flanges forged..
and then everything else was basically bolt on after that..
no cutting of exhaust at all!! thanks to u guys advice!!

verdict so far!! mugen twinloop GREAT sounding exhaust..
nice and quiet!!! something that is AMAZING after driving around for so long
with the ricer exhaust blowing my ears out.. nice deep sound at idle that u cant hear inside the car.. only from outside.. and vtec roar is very nice and deep and not overly LOOK at me im speeding.. hahahahahaha

i am a happy boy today!! :D

thanks again for all ur input!!!

i see so many ppl do this with the Mugen cat back ...

cant stress enough that if you buy one than you WILL need a JDM cat + JDM fitting headers

u wer VERY lucky to get such quality service from Perth workshops ... i am facepalming everyday with my mates that get over excited and blow thousands of dollars on stupid things that wreck their cars that these Perth workshops talk them into

being 3 hours south of Perth myself i know how hard it is to find desent service over here =/

Congratulations on the install!

Are JDM DC2R, EK9 and EG cats all the same length?
How do they fare against 200 cell and 100 cell high flow cats?
This is for JDM B18C - Intake only so far.
Headers and catback would be installed at same time with cat.
